How come some 996's have a color steering wheel emblem?

Recommended Posts

Interesting. I had a 2000 996 coupe with a three spoke steering wheel but it had a silver and black metal emblem embeded. I eventually changed it out to a colored crest because I thought it looked better.

The airbag cover houses the crest. It was available in leather or vinyl. All the leather ones have colored crests. Some of the vinyl ones do. also, though I have no idea why. A replacement airbag cover, in vinyl, has the embossed crest.

2000 996 has the silver and black emblem on the 3 spoke steering wheel and also one of the ignition keys is with the silver emblem. This was for Millenium year (but not the millenium edition, which came with other differences)

the vast majority of 996 steering wheels i see along with the rest of the interior is of the spartan variety.

most don't have that stitched leather center which is a key differentiator. mine had the gold but replaced with the silver crest to match the silver hood crest to match the artic silver.

Now you need to replace the gold emblem on your shift knob...LOL. Haven't seen that one replaced yet (I have the same issue)
