Topic Hover Preview

Recommended Posts

Has the topic hover preview changed recently? Since the 3.0 upgrade it was showing a small snippet on hover under my mouse a la tooltip, now it's showing a larger one that obscures what's over my mouse, meaning I have to clear it before I can click on a topic.

I've disabled it because I don't find it very useful in the larger size. Is there a way to revert back to the older functionality? Other than this minor gripe, v3.0 is awesome so far.

Yes, be sure to clear your browser cache using Ctrl+F5 to get proper operation (on each computer you use).

If you are still having problems please let me know what OS and what browser (including version) you are using.

If folks really don't like this version then we can go back to the old version. But, please try the hard cache clearing first.

I turned the feature back on and cleared my cache, and it seems to have them hovering over their forum titles now instead of under my mouse. It'll take a little getting used to but if the hover is predictable then it's fine by me.

Thanks!

I have turned off Topic Hover Preview as it was causing a server overload on searches where there were 100's of thousands of results. It was trying to preview them all.

I am sure that this problem can be fixed and we will bring back Topic Hover Preview - in the near future. Thanks for your patience.

Loren - with or without the topic hover preview, RennTech 3.0 is a terrific upgrade. Being able to preview part of the post to decide whether to click on it or not is like a third layer of icing on the cake

Thanks Geoff!

This Topic Hover Preview was a 3rd party addon and although I thought it would perform well it had some unseen weaknesses - like the large result searches.

The forum software company is adding a preview function into their next release (likely in the next few months) so I think we might just wait for that release.

Other new features will include:

- a complete search overhaul

- more profile customization

- topic preview

- sharing links via Twitter and Facebook

- inline notifications (emails, subscribed articles, etc.)

and more...

I'll post more details as we get closer to the next version.
