Thanks chaps,

It is obviously based on the Bosch KTS650, which has network capability. The old PST2 was based on the Bosch KTS500, which became obsolete about 18 months ago.

Jeff - do you know if the latest version of the PST2 software includes the 997 and new Boxster?

Thanks again

The PST2 does not work with the new 997/987. The PIWIS works with the older 996/986. I tried to buy a used PST2 from the shop when the mechanics got the new tester, but that is when one of the mechanics I know said they were keeping them.

If Porsche does with the PST2 what they did with the Bosch hammer, then sooner or later they will stop having updated software and become obsolete. Maybe then I could buy one for a decent price.

Technically they all should have it. I think Jeff's photo is from Stevens Creek Porsche.

Thanks Loren, Just found out another DME upgrade on the Cayenne that would start the car in D1 even with PSM on.. :)

There are 3 of them at Stevens Creek Porsche.

Pictures of #1 and #3 at their open house for the new Boxster yesterday. Yes, their new testers are numbered 1-3, just like the old PST2s were.

The PST2 will work "somewhat" for a 997/987 with limited capabilities. To do that, you do need version 24 of the PST2 software. There are several controller functions in the new 997/987 that PST2 does not even see.

Hey, thanks for ur answer,

PST2 latest version is 27, I did the upgrade lately :). anyway, as per dealer notification, porsche main does not impose the use of piwis on my dealer for the new cars, and they provide the latest dvd's for the pst2. I presume that PST2 should do allright. By the way, I was really curious to know what are piwis capabilities? or the pst2? The main role of these are diagnostic, and not intervention. Intervention is limited to change behaviour for different country setups. the only tunning I found on these machines is setting tiptronic aggressive or soft. coding keys. and seting sound alerts on or off, etc. I have seen the piwis info, and i must admit that it is more extensive for the new cars full stop. but enthusiasts who want to fine tune their cars with the piwis? not possible. You have hundreds of engineers who decided that your car should be what it is, why overide their judgement? at least they know better than us ...

I hope..

The latest and last software version available in the US is 24 because the PST2 is no longer supported here.

I would like to see some pictures of a PST2 with a software version higher than 24. Pictures like this that show the version, and the models which include the 997/987/Cayman.

Very interesting...

We were told by two different dealers here in the US that PST2 is no longer sold or supported.

Do you know if they are still selling PST2 in Europe - and software updates?

Very good pictures. Thank you.

The PIWIS is much faster. I think it is DVD based and not CD. It has a touch screen. The mechanics have told me why it is better than a PST2 but I do not remember all the details. I have seen it hooked up to my car too many times that I do not want to remember.

This is my car with a PIWIS.

I do not know if PST2 is still sold here in Europe, but there is a way to check. If we could find the PET part No. for the PST2, and find it in the latest PET6 revision, it would be still on sale.
The PST2 Porsche part number is: 000 721 958 80. You will find a complete list of all part numbers (Porsche and Bosch) near the end (Section 8) of the built-in operation instructions (F1 - Help from the first screen).

In the US parts list the PST2 is there -- but it is not on the US price list.

The PST2 or KTS 500 is not sold, supported or serviced anymore in Europe or USA. It is in the USA price list but one can't order it thru the dealers either.

Loren search the price list for PST2 and you will find the price if the unit at over $7,000.
