Is it the front lid microswitch or actuator making this loud noise? I have attached an audio sample of the buzzing that appears to come from the front lid latch area.

After many scenarios, I came up with 2 ways to easily reproduce:

  1. Open the lid with the key remote then pull the manual lid release... buzzing
  2. Simply turn on the ignition... buzzing

To get it to stop I have to disconnect the battery. It has stopped on its own a couple times after several minutes but most times it seems to want to go on for ever.

Back to my question...Is it the front lid microswitch or actuator making this noise? I am not familiar with these parts to know which one is powered to cause such a noise noise.

The funny thing is that I was simply going around the car dusting it off and when I got to the front bumber area it just started!

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Ok. It is neither of them. The actuator is working fine. The noise is still coming from the general area.

The following photos has the area in question.

FrontNoiseArea.jpg

Now looking more closely from the luguage compartment I see wires leading into that general area. What to? And what cold be causing this noise? The Horn?

Thanka again for any insight.

The lid release actuator is to the left side of the car (left, as in if you were sitting in the car). I think the transmitter for the Homelink is in the area you have marked. Do you have the Homelink option?

Yes, I found the actuator by pulling out the siding carpet. And, yes, I do have Home Link.

Didn't see if you resolved your problem or what year your car is so I thought I might add to the comments.

Do you get a 'Visit Workshop' message? If so, I believe your problem is the 'Front Control Module'.

Early MY 997 (ie 2005) had or have a static electricity issue w/ the 'Front Control'. Usually it appears when you wax the front bumper cover or light covers.

The module is located behind the cover so it requires removal to replace it. I think Porsche has a replacement Control Module that 'fixed' the problem.

Not resolved yet. PFAFF also thinks it is the Front End Control Unit and I am to bring it in.

Yes, I do get the "Visit Workshop" message.

I suspected static as I was using a microfibre clothe to wipe some dust off. When I got to the font bumper the buzzing started. What else could it have been !? Strange though.

Anyway, I really appreciate your response. Thanks!

I'll post back what PFAFF finds out.

  • 2 weeks later...

Its the actuator for the front trunk. My car had the exact same problem and the service manager claimed they'd never heard of such a thing. They thought it was a noisy fuel pump at first. If you need the part numbers from the RO i can get that for you.

Thanks voltairesb

have been waiting to get the work order so that I can list the part number but yes it was an actuator but the secondary one for the emergy lid release (See diagram). It was stuck! This was replaced as well as the Front Controler.

Now I got to figure out my hi-beam situation. Next post ;)

Thank you all who responded and I hope this post comes in handy for someone else.
