Hey everyone, I'm new to this site, so sorry if I'm doing something wrong. This is my problem, I just purchased a 2001 boxster non s. I knew it had problems, so it was purchased as a project car. When I start it, it blows out enormous amouts of smoke! Way more than I've ever seen. At first I was thinking it was bad piston rings, but I've been reading posts and many are saying its the aos? I plan on doing a compression test to see how the rings are, but i don't want to go through the hassle if its just the aos. Any advise would be appreciated!

Start the car and let it idle, try and remove the oil filler cap in the rear trunk. If the AoS is good, the cap should come off with little effort and the car should start to idle funny. If it is very difficult to get the oil cap off, the AoS is toast.

Today I removed the aos, is there any way to test it once its been removed from the vehicle? I just want to be 100% sure this is the problem before ordering new parts. Also, I went ahead and did a compression test, I couldn't do it with a warm engine because it would not stay running. My readings were between 130-145.

If it hasn't failed alreaady, it will fail in the future. Just replace it.

Today I replaced the aos, oil, air filter, and spark plugs. I've check the intake after reving it and there is no oil inside. It still smokes, but is a likely cause of oil still in the exhaust. I now encountered a new problem, P0304, 305, 306. It cannot idle without reving at a higher rpm. I plan on checking the coils in the morning, does any have any idea of another problem beside coil packs?

One reason you maybe aren't getting a lot of answers is this is the convertible top section (sub forum) of the forum.

Cyl 1,2,3 are all on the AOS side of the engine. Could you have done anything that got them disconnected while you were doing the AOS. I'm assuming here you weren't getting those codes before.

Plugs, Wires, Coil Packs
