Iridium Spark Plugs?

Recommended Posts

Do Iridium Spark Plugs really give you an increase in power, regardless of weather or not you can feel it?

Iridium Spark Plug Dyno Charts

Can these Denso Sparks be used in a 2003 Carrera 2?

I'm desperate for a cheap mod

actually i have tryed this cheap mode with the last iridium ngk and i can tell 100% sure that it will fell like you win a couple of horses dead

so i was forced to do the job again with a new 3gap set from bosch

and is not a 5 min job

There is no cheap mod for noticeable horsepower. Your best bang for the buck is probably a chip or softronic reflash.

To build noticeable horsepower you need to substanstially increase airflow through the engine. You could start with an intake and exhaust. Then you can add a larger throttle body and manifold, new heads, new cam, etc. However, Porsches are already performance vehicles, so finding performance parts engineered to even higher standards costs a pretty penny.

Any increase in performance you feel is only due to having new, properly functioning plugs and not because they are better plugs. A spark is a spark. The compressed mixture in the cylinders will ignite no better with a hotter spark than with the minimum required spark. For a high compression performance engine, the best plug is a copper core plug and, ironically, these are the least expensive plugs.

holy thread resurrection batman.

@1999

based upon my "feeling" :when i have replaced the old spark's(beru) with the iridium i was assuming simplly that the car will have a...new,high end tech..better spark

the car was running different, the engine was feelt lazzy but sound "smoother"

i put after 1 week the new updated bosch and car went back to normal.

but it was a feeling for sure, i'm sure you understand you have quite some knowledgements as far as i can see.

iridium, will proabably net better plug longevity, but these engines burn pretty clean even that is a wash! After 30K pull the orignal plugs, they are usually in very good condition. So I guess one can surmize if using iriidium, the gain will be, you will never have to change the plugs again!

I doubt any HP gains between a clean regular and a clean iridium plug will ever be realized!
