How to install Lighted Door Sills

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

Here is my how to on Installing them..

First remove the old sill. just stick a screwdrive under the metal and it pops up. Then remove the 2 hex screws that are holding the plastic sill down.

You can't remove this hole piece, just pop it out from the front area. You just need to drill a hole in this corner.. so lift it while your drilling.. the wire runs through this drilled hole

Get some double sided tape and put this little box in the second to last box..

Run the supplied wire up into the fuse box area.. then over to the footwell light

Now I got power from the entry lights underneath the steering wheel..

The book has you tapping into other sources in the door harness, but this was much easier..

I spliced into the footwell light under the wheel here

Hide all the wires and your finished!!

That is about it.. for the passanger side.. do the same thing and tap into the footwell lighting..afx.sized.jpg

Ok I had mine installed but found they flicker. I have given my car to my trusted car audio and electronics guys who now say the wiring matches up with the info on this thread. So I'm at a loss at to what's going on, unless it's because my car is '08 spec, which sounds unlikely to me.

My guys say a correct wiring diagram would be useful.

Any advice?

Thanks

I do not know if it is the case on your car but on the Gen 1 Cayenne's - if your car did not have door access lighting as standard - then the door lighting option had to be turned on with a PIWIS tester/programmer.

The coding needs to be set to menu item "Door warning light/entry light On".

Thanks Loren. Got back today and found they'd fixed the issue by re-wiring them to the door lighting instead of the internal lights. Seems the original install which ran off the interior lights caused both flickering and delayed shut off, since they'd stay on for a few secs in concert with the interior lite.

Oh well, all good. It will just the list time I get my friends Audi/VW dealership workshop to try installing an electrical based accessory like that! So much for a quick install done in a couple of hours while I was at lunch!

I also just bought these sills.  Would it be possible to get the TSB for them?  I'll definitely post my experiences when I am finished.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

You've got mail...

Loren,

Would you be kind enough to forward that TSB to me as well?

Many thanks!

KR

EDIT: D'oh! I found where the TSB's live! No need to forward it. Thanks!!!
