DRL hack/mod?

I bougth a US model 911.  I'm in Canada and I need the DRL on.  I did a search here for "DRL" and it seems as though there is a hack/mod to easily do it.  It was referred to as the  "whiteson" hack.  However, when I go to the link posted in the threads, it's dead.  http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/drl/

 

Does anyone have info on how I can do this?

Don't know about the whiteson DLR but I have a couple of things to mull. I have an '06 US purchased 997 C2S and the dealer was able to turn on the DLR and tail lights for me with the PIWIS. Depending on the year of yours, It may be applicable to yours.

Thanks so much.  However, in step 4 it says to remove the fuse for seat heaters.  I don't have heated seats.  Do I still put the "hacked" fuse into that location?

It is remove fuse A9 -- if you do NOT have seat heaters 

and

remove fuse A9 AND fuse A6 if you DO have seat heaters.

 

So you only remove fuse A9 (per the instructions).

Yes.  I understood which fuse gets removed.  I was just wondering where the hacked fuses go.  Into A9 and A6 regardless if you have heated seats or not?

Looking at the last picture, the fuses are inserted into a6 and a9 (a6 providing switched power to a9). By the wiring diagram, that seems to only power up the lh low beam headlight. Am I missing something?

I've done this hack. Yes, it turns on the low beam headlights on startup.  This is pretty common practice.  My ultimate preference would be the fog lights as I'm not fond of using up operating hours on my Litronic lighting.

 

Which light did you want to turn on?

Definitely the fogs, but looking at the diagrams, that would turn on the rear fog light also. For now, I just turn on the parking and fog lights.

I did my 2001 996 and put up all the instructions here https://sites.google.com/site/996drlhack/.

All passed Canadian muster and I also put up the BS labels for the sunvisors which they never looked at as you may be able to tell from the fact they made no comment on their trilingularity.

Will this hack work on the 2005-06 997 fog lights.

I really don’t understand why people mess around with “hacks” to get DRL, everyone of these cars came from the factory with DRL capability built in, it simply needs to be turned on with a Porsche diagnostic tool.

Depending upon the model year, either a PST II or a PIWIS unit (the PIWIS is backwards compatible to all model years).

Just to clarify, for anyone reading this in the future, on a 996 you can't code the lights for DRLs.  All the lighting is hard wired, and there are no control units involved.  The 9x7 series introduced the Front Control Unit for the lights (and other items) and the DRLs can be coded in that.
