  1. Yes, you will need the radio tools. You can likely borrow them from a local owner or shop. It takes about 30 seconds to use them. How to get the factory radio out?
  2. I answered your PM...
  3. Talk to the folks at Sunset Imports (Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost - at the top center of any page). You want part number: 923.559.325.01 Logo 912E
  4. There are a number of TSBs with fixes for noises. Most of the fixes involve felt tape and Teflon tape.
  5. Yes, there were upgraded by Porsche in TSB 2/00 2139 Power Loss and Lack of Acceleration -- dated 10-06-2000. Get the latest hoses from your supplier and if they blow off again you will need the silicone ones.
  6. IMHO newer is always better unless there is something specific you want certain model year for.
  7. No problem... CEL = Check Engine Light
  8. I wouldn't think it would be over 1 hour - they might have to remove the belly pan plastic to get the other end. If it is a vent line (as I suspect it is they might cover it under your emissions warranty. You may be lucky and it isn't leaking enough to throw a CEL yet.
  9. Look like a vent hose for the fuel line.
  10. Any lights? Does it ask for the security "CODE"? If not, check the fuse on the back of the radio.
  11. None. The C4 will be a little heavier because it has 4 wheel drive. Just the usual... Do a CarFax. Get dealer records if you can. Get a PPI and/or a CPO car. Ask someone from your local PCA (that is familiar with the 996) to help you look at a prospect car.
  12. Two questions... Is your car a Tiptronic? Does the hose connection that exits the pic on the right go tot a solenoid then to then throttle body?
  13. The new (125 01) MAF is "supposed" to be less susceptible to dirt fouling - with an aftermarket filter/intake that would seem to make sense to me.
  14. I don't think the VIN includes that information. It is either a C2 or C4 since the C4S did not come out until MY02.
  15. You radio model please? CDR-23 or CDR220?
  16. Try 0633 or 0631
  17. Well, it could have caused the other false readings - time will tell... but at least you have solved one problem.
  18. Try Gert at Carnewal.com. He is in Belgium and has a great reputation.
  19. The alarm box under the left hand seat is likely the factory alarm and central locking (for trunks and doors, etc.). See if you can see a part number on it.
  20. If the O2 sensor has been replaced and you still get the "signal implausible" fault then either the wiring is bad or the DME is bad. Why would you suspect the O2 sensor after the cat? It has no faults. The sensor (readings) before the cats are used to compare with the sensor after the cat (readings) and other inputs from the temperature and air flow (MAF) for the DME to adjust the mixture. So, if you were not getting the P0130 fault then I would say the MAF is faulty - but since the O2 sensor on that bank says it is shorted (either to ground or +12 volts) you can not trust the other faults because it can not get proper readings. IMHO Step 1 is still to correct the O2 sensor problem on bank 1 before the cat.
  21. Replacing the Gas Door Actuator DIY
  22. P1125 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation, Upper Load Range, Bank 1 – Above Limit This says that the DME can not make the mixture enough rich (under load) - it is sensing a lean condition that it can not compensate for. P1128 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation, Idle Range, Bank 1 – Above Limit This says that the DME can not make the mixture enough rich (at idle) - it is sensing a lean condition that it can not compensate for. P1126 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation, Lower Load Range, Bank 1 – Above Limit This says that the DME can not make the mixture enough rich (under load) - it is sensing a lean condition that it can not compensate for. P0130 Oxygen Sensor Ahead of TWC, Bank 1 – Signal Implausible This says the signal at this O2 sensor is either shorted or at battery voltage. Right now the codes say you have trouble only on bank one. Has the sensor ahead of the cat been checked/replaced? What else has been replaced at this point? Please tell me - at this point what has been changed?
  23. That would depend on if the lighter socket on the BMW is unswitched (always on). On Porsches they are always on - I know my Mercedes is the opposite (always off). So, if the lighter does not work with the ignition off and the key out -- then you won't be able to charge the battery through the lighter socket.
  24. Hmm... why not install the two part GT3 front axle strut (lower front control arms) - that can be shimmed to whatever camber you want? Did you ask TRG about that?
  25. I don't know if this diagram is much better... (item 1 is the main brake light switch). It will likely help to move or remove the duct so you can see the switches better.
