  1. Your dealer is wrong - first the 997 engine is the same engine as the 996 - some cars can use a quart every 1500 miles and some do not. For instance my MY99 does not use any oil between changes at all. If your car does not use oil then simply smile at those folks that complain about using a quart every 1500 miles. :D
  2. Step one is to identify where they are coming from. There are solutions for most of the rattles, etc. but they are specific to location.
  3. That connection looks the same as mine. There should be a flare on the plastic piece that keeps the hose on with the clamp. I wouldn't worry about that connection. 01 is the latest cap - besides when the cap leaks you see residue on top of the tank. If you see a leak on the ground near the left rear wheel (and the cap is on tight) then it is likely the familiar coolant tank crack. Many times the crack is on or near the bottom of the tank is very hard to see. I'd keep an eye on it but it sounds like a cracked tank from what you describe - sorry.
  4. Yes, moisture in the fuel can cause gas line freeze. Most good gasoline suppliers add some deicer (methanol) to there fuel shipments in the winter. If that is a concern then buy and use some HEET Gas-Line Antifreeze and Water Remover. It will not hurt anything and it will remove water/moisture from your fuel.
  5. P1117 Oxygen sensor heating after TWC, bank 1 Potential causes: Heating current too high – Heating resistance too low – Short to B+ Heating current too low – Short to ground – Corrosion in connector – Break in wiring Open circuit – Break in wiring – Heating resistance too great Internal resistance of oxygen sensor too high – Open circuit in sensor line – Oxygen sensor How many miles on your car? It is not unusual to lose an O2 sensor after 60,000 miles. Bank 1 on a Carrera would be the drivers side - sensor after the cat. You will need a cat wrench or a 22 mm wrench. Do not get any oil (or any other substance) on the sensor. The sensor should come with high temp anti seize put that on the threads but not on the sensor.
  6. That part number is the only Tequipment US Nav system retrofit kit for both the Carrera (997) and Boxster (987). So if it is the wrong head then it must have come that way from the factory. Do you know the part number of the head unit? and, How do they know it won't work? There are different wave guides (fiber optic cables) for different options but the install TSB only shows one head unit.
  7. Engine, transmission, brakes, and suspension are all different. They share most body parts and chassis.
  8. Well, I usually spray and make sure any deposits are cleaned out. It should move freely when you are done. You do not need to remove the throttle body to clean the solenoid valve - just remove the valve using the precautions I mentioned. Did you open the butterfly to clean the carbon build up behind it? If you can do that well on the car then it might be easier to remove the throttle body. How do you know the MAF is bad? You can disconnect the MAF completely and the car will still run pretty well.
  9. Have a look here for a pic, description and how to clean.
  10. Usually the MAF works or it doesn't. Did you look for carbon buildup in the throttle body and idle valve solenoid? If those are both clean and it still runs the same then a scan tool (that can read) MAF air flow should tell you if the MAF is questionable.
  11. US lights do not get the headlight leveling system. 000 044 900 39 is the part number for Litronics upgrade kit for RoW LHD cars. The TSB is here in the TSB section which is viewable by Contributing Members.
  12. One Tiptronic ground point is located in front of the instrument cluster on the dashboard support frame. The other Tiptronic ground point is located on the rear wall in the rear luggage compartment, between the DME control module and Tiptronic control module. There is also a connector that should be checked for corrosion or loose pins. Plug-in connector X 2/6 (21-pin, blue) is located beneath the convertible top on the right-hand side member (in the vicinity of the lower safety belt attachment).
  13. Gumout is a brand name I use. It is basically lacquer thinner - just keep it off the paint.
  14. 000 044 500 16 is for MY98 to 01 C4, Cab, 6 speed
  15. I thought you couldn't find it here... The paint data plate is located in the front of the luggage compartment on the left side wall under the carpet lining.
  16. Use the drop down menu Online Docs Menu then select External Paint Colors from the page menu choose Carrera (996) External Paint Colors.
  17. Item 11 - 996 111 241 00 Mounting Muffler (1 per car) - Retail $178.67 (each) as of Dec 2005
  18. The first two tests are continuity (ohms) so no power. The last two tests do require power so you will need a good ignition switch to get reliable readings.
  19. Good battery? Good ignition switch? Good grounds on the chassis? Those are the things I would check first since this is a very unusual (and intermittent) failure.
  20. Yes, I am sure. The C4S is in the TT category since it shares the same suspension. If you want to be sure call or email Jeff Clark at Sunset Imports.
  21. 22. 000 044 500 30 Sport type running gear for C4, Cab, 6 speed 000 044 500 32 Sport type running gear for C4, Cab, Tiptronic These numbers will fit MY02-MY05 C4 Cab only. Either way it should come with all the parts that need to change. Springs, shocks, bump stops, and swaybars (where they differ).
  23. Tell us the item numbers and we will look them up.
  24. IMHO - yes (if it has ever been replaced before) and yes. Make sure you get the newest RMS 997 101 212 00. See the thread here.
  25. We have just added (only for our Contributing Members) a Retail Price Search feature. Now Contributing Members can look up the US MSRP for any Porsche part(s). Just enter the part number (or the first few numbers of the sequence) and it will return the current Retail Price. Contributing Members will find links on the Online Docs Menu (drop-down menu) and in the 996, 997 (Carrera) Series DIY / How to... forum.
