  1. When I got my Certificate of Authenticity in 2001 they were $35. I wonder whats warrants an almost 3X increase (greed?).
  2. Hmm... my feeling has always been clean the rubber and use a dry talc compound. You don't want a grease or lubricant that is going to collect dirt and debris. Another trick I've heard is teflon tape. Applying it might be tough though. Then again, Porsche sells a lubricant for the rubber mating surfaces of the cab top to rear windows. It is: 999 917 557 00 Krytox lubricant $33 retail :eek:
  3. The oil pressure relief valve seal is: 996 107 123 50 The proper torque is 25 Nm. (19 ft-lbs). Here is the fuel filter on a Boxster - similar location on a Carrera (but I don't have a pic). You will need to remove the plastic belly pan to get to it. Don't forget the ground wire. ...and gasoline will run down your arm. :o

There was a security foul up and some folks were told they did not have access to that page. That is now fixed and everyone should have access. What is Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost? Sunset Imports is a Porsche dealer in Oregon that is joining with RennTech.org to offer Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost (plus a small handling fee). So, is this a banner type ad? - no, RennTech.org does not receive any of the small profit they make.   10. 222 is Traction Control (only available on MY99 C2's). 234? Are you sure it isn't 224 Limited Slip Differential? TC and LSD were always sold together.
  11. Sounds like an exhaust manifold leak to me or a compression leak. Not good... better find a shop that can check it out. I would not drive the car - just to be safe.
  12. At this point I'm not sure I remember... last car I did (before the DIY) was a Turbo and I can't remember if it was different or not. The larger one (30 mm) will only fit in one place so that should tell you for sure. Let me know what you find...
  13. Porsche specs say - 18 MPG city and 26 MPG highway. Sounds like you are right on spec.
  14. If you look at my 3rd Radiator DIY (Loren's DIY pages link at the top of this page) I cover removing the front bumper. You will see that you likely will need to slightly loose all the front bumper screws... then move the bumper and tighten them down again.

  16. Not to my knowledge - not on the 996. There are however 3 different MAF sensors depending on: C2 or C4 (MY01 and older) or 3.6 liter (beginning in MY02).
  17. Unless you damaged one of the oxygen sensors (not likely) then I doubt this is related. Have you had the gas cap or oil cap off recently? ...these are the two most common causes of a CEL.
  18. Well, the springs are just little brass clips (as Glenn showed in the first pic). So the problem is likely finding just those pieces or making your own. The plastic hinge pins are very fragile so be careful. If they break you will need replace the whole visor. ...or drill a small hole where the pin was and glue in a metal one (don't ask me how I know that - :lol: )
  19. I mean the pins on the headlight assembly and the socket they plug into in the opening. You may need a flashlight to see the socket well inside the opening. I usually give a slight tug to see if any of the wires are loose in the socket too. If they are then they push out and don't make contact when you push the headlight in.
  20. New front brake thickness is ~28 mm. To remove the rotor you take off the caliper. Then remove the 2 phillips head screws holding the rotor on. See my DIY brake pad section for more detail.
  21. Doug, I've seen this happen a couple of times before. Take the light out and double check the pins on both the plug and socket. Make sure none are bent or pushed out of their holders.
  22. Do a search for Homelink here... there are a couple of guys working on this. Porsche is (unfortunately) not a Homelink customer.
  23. I think you just remove the snap ring and pull the pin out. I think Don (DonCapeCod) has done this himself so you might try an email to him if you are still having problems.
