  1. Solved - Replaced amp with a re-man unit from Porsche Thumping sound eliminated - radio operation now is normal. Cheers D.
  2. not sure if the 534 works with the 535 system etc. to do a swap without coding you would also need the key pill and everything or else its a no start. i think coding would solve the tip vs man but im not 100% maybe someone else knows.... A boxster with alarm issues my first check would be moisture in the carpet or floor pan - which would include popping open the alarm unit and checking for visible board damage - look for burn marks / corrosion.
  3. all the above mentioned... when they say check the leads, a quick one is to just make sure they are all seated properly... they tend to vibrate loose when they get old and sloppy and kind of just sit on top of the spark plug. since removing the wire is the first step to getting at the plug you need to make sure one isnt loose before you take it all apart and possibly not find anything wrong (look deep inside the lead with a light if you see green corrosion replace them)
  4. this was mentioned briefly on page one but I always hammer in a tripple square (12 point) socket, short extension, and long ratchet/breaker bar Key is to have adequate leverage while keeping the socket straight so you don't twist it out. we also have a bag of drain plugs on hand because the lube shops around here love over tightening them.
  5. Lots of guys use torque sticks on their impact guns.... I dont really trust them..... could be something like that. And I have worked with people who only lightly torque the security bolts like HiLux2400 mentioned. I always use a torque wrench on wheels, not worth making that mistake IMHO
  6. Just in case, when Installing a clock spring it usually comes locked in the center position.... You have to make sure that the vehicle steering is in the center position as well. Most are just coiled length of ribbon wire inside and they only have so many turns left to right before you snap/stretch the wiring inside... you can also adjust the distance of the switch assembly from the back of the steering wheel, there is usually a small pinch bolt (8mm head) on the underside. Maybe its getting "crushed" when you bolt the wheel on etc....
  7. Yes, on 993's certain drive pieces are replaceable without roof removal. I just check POSES and it seems on the 996 the first step for everything is removing the roof module. So this is quite possible I only have experience with 993 targa repairs. Not sure if someone could manage to change the piece in the car. And yes most techs run when ever someone mentions a targa roof problem. Good luck.
  8. Hey Everyone 07 Cayman, loud thumping noise form speakers while ignition ON or OFF. Radio ON or OFF - eventually stops....(i guess when it goes to sleep) Amp? Just looking for some input. Thanks.
  9. From what I remember, If you perform the emergency top operation. The center screw you turn behind the rear seats I believe needs to re-installed with lock-tite because it disengages from the motor when you do it manually. Once this is properly done, only then can you perform the top calibration with a scantool such as the piwis
  10. As Ahsai mentioned the coils packs are very common. When the heat shields are removed you can often see the plastic covering split and cracked which is a good indication that its time for replacement. Also moisture causing a missfire is a good sign as well. Cheers.

  12. JFP in PAGood point on the impeller. Most of our clientele come in demanding metal impellers because they don't want the impeller failing. The flip side is the bearing failure being more damaging. Im an advocate of selling OEM as much as possible but you can only lead a horse to water.
  13. in my area the average shop rate is $80 - $120 per hour. so considering a tech would quote 3-4 hrs for the work sounds about right? I believe the whole center console needs to be removed etc. I always prefer short throw shifters - and yes they can feel "notchy" compared to stock. Contact your dealer personally about the warranty anything else could be hearsay. or if the transmission blows up put the stock shifter back in :P
  14. IMHO Any phosphate free coolant that gets changed regularly wont be an issue... Metal impeller = good, aftermarket, fine. i stay away from white box made in china el cheapo brands. make sure the new pump spins freely by hand on and off the engine. you don't want it grinding the block. A search should reveal lots of info on replacing the pump if there isn't already a tutorial. That pump would have to be really really bad to cause a vibration in the cabin so dont freak out if that idle vibration is still there afterwards. Cheers. D.
  15. in early 986 models there is also a fuse to check (usually) under the drivers seat in the module that is located there. seat removal may be necessary.
  16. When people tie up the wear sensors..... The connection usually corrodes in the wheel well area and causes the light to come back on... in my experience..
  17. At this point, I wouldnt throw parts at it, but checks will need to be made based on symptoms.. Checking fuel pressure with a mechanical gauge... Checking fault codes - durametric Checking for vacuum leaks etc - Smoke Machine There are many issues that can cause a vehicle to stall and always possible to have more than one specific problem.
  18. there is also a tech bulletin explaining this issue for the turbo and c4 i beleive, and most likely available on renntech!
  19. Additionally...... you can run the calibration with a piwiz using a resistor of 251ohms or use a trim pot jumpering the 2 middle wires on the connector. Some might argue this is inaccurate but it is a method used at the dealer to save time - i was told. (you dont have to drain tank and fill with exact amount of fuel this way) d.
  20. Wipers Defective Warning comes on... Wiper blades have been replaced warning persists. The arms have stopped half way across the windshield at times. Currently functioning but wiper defective warning displayed... What module monitors wiper function etc? rain sensor issue? Anything I can look up with durametric? Cheers and Thanks.... D.
  21. Hey everyone, Were are doing some "creative" wiring on a cayman build. 3.4l variocam plus.. Can anyone with experience advise weather the signal to the cam adjuster solenoid is a straight on-off signal or if it is pulse width modulated. Cheers and thanks... D.
