We just had the convertible top on our 1999 996 Cab replaced. (Top was from AutoTop - BTW, fine construction, with glass rear window -- highly recommend it.) However, the installers (one of the supposedly "top" top installers in the area - Young's, for those of you in the Norfolk area) determined that the new top's zipper for the headliner was installed backwards -- so they simply removed the headliner and went ahead with the top installation. I'm feeling like they took me for a dummy and figured I'd shaddup and go away. Well, after a simple call to AutoTop, it turns out that the "top" top

Hi guys, Newbie to the forum here. I have a 2002 996 C2 Cab new to me and been enjoying it since I got it 2 years ago. Mostly trouble free until two weeks ago when the cab top started to acting up and then quit all together. I had to do the emergency manual procedure, after checking all the obvious stuff (i.e. fuses, relays, micro-switches all tested and works). I started taking the mechanism apart, checked, cleaned and lubed everything, put it back together, run the calibration (Durametric), things start to work again wonderfully (or so I thought). The clam-shell lid start

I just bought myself my first Porsche, a 1998 Boxster. I have an issue with the soft top that I'd like to get some guidance on. The top goes down smoothly with no issues. It also comes up smoothly until it is nearly all the way up. Just before the dashboard Top light goes out, there is a pretty sharp metallic twang or snap. It did this when I was looking at the car before purchase, and it did it again this evening when I put the top up after driving the car home. I'm assuming it's getting caught on something but I wonder if anyone might have suggestions on what to look at give

I checked my '09 Cabs's drains at the end of summer and they appeared to drain fine down behind the wheels with good flow. However, now the rain is here, I'm getting water in the driver's side rear footwell (below the carpet) causing the alarm/electrics to go off. I've moped up the water and I checked the drains again between the rains but they still seem to drain well. I've checked the slot style drains from around the end of the top as well as the main drain towards the center of the car in a drainage dip. Does anyone have any idea on where the water may be coming in from or per

Hi all, After 18yrs my convertible top has finally encountered its first issue. After using this forum (thank you!!) to figure out how to access all of the components (top was stuck in closed position), I found the root of my issue, a bad cable. However, as I was very carefully removing the cable from the transmission, the "clip" which is molded into the plastic cover cracked and is no longer functional (see image). Not really surprising on an 18yr old piece of plastic. The transmission works perfectly and I do not want to replace it, so I am looking for advice on any other ways that

does anyone have a wiring diagram for the convertible top? 987.2 boxster. ive narrowed the issue down to (pretty sure) being between the relays tray and actual switch in the center console. ive gone as far as cut the green wire that goes to the top motor under clam shell and put 12v to it, it started to work. ive checked the relays and swapped them aswell and still nothing. ive tested the switch in the center and the green and brown wire switch while pulling the switch up from positive to negative like it should. which make me think its somewhere in between the switch and the relay tray. in pr

Hello everyone, My convertible top broke in "fully up" position recently, with the clamshell at a 20 degree tilt. Was able to remove the clamshell by getting under it (painfully) and found a shredded motor cable going to the driver's side. I wanted to make sure that neither of the two transmissions were at fault, so I removed them to examine their gears. Carefully disassembling them, all the gears appear to be in good shape with no missing teeth, however, when using the old intact cable and using the power drill to rotate the cable, the circular interior that goes into the V-joint does

Car: 1999 Boxster stock "Radio Speaker Box" behind seats Putting the top down last night and heard a loud pop. Top will not go down and dash light is on. Checked the switch in the top latch and it is functioning. Nothing when I press the convertible button. I'm assuming an arm or cable broke. I searched the forums and found some help but my question is a bit more basic before I see what is broken - how do I get to the parts! Top is up, clamshell is down. Q: 1) Does the top need to be up or down ( or 1/2 way) to access parts? 2) If it needs to be down, how do I get it

Hello, When doing a convertible top calibration using piwis on my 03 996, it gets stuck after closing the windows. I hear relays clicking in the doors constantly after the windows fully close. Then I get an operation timeout error. In normal operation windows work fine, they close and open with one click, and then I hear relay clicking one time after reaching max/min position. Any idea what might be an issue here? Also, should the calibration start with windows going up and not down? Also, when I trigger windows to go up/down using drive links in piwis, they work fine, with relays clicking

I own a 1999 carrera I opened up the top everything went fine. When I got home my hand brake would not engaged so I performed the "emergency operation" for the top as stated on the manual and got the top to close. Found out later a piece of paper got stuck between the hand brake and the switch which prevented it from engaging. So after getting the hand brake to engage again I tried to open the top it is just stuck. You can hear a clicking noise, indicator light would be solid then blink. Do I need to reset the anything or reverse the operation for it to work??? Mind you it did work before that

I have a US spec 1999 C2 cabriolet. A few weeks back when trying to close the top the clamshell would not open. It was stuck on the left hand side. After several failed attempts I sought the help of this forum. The clamshell is held firmly in place by three latches. A clip holding the latch on the left side had fallen off and hence the latch was stuck. I was able to loosen the latch and open the clamshell using the emergency crank behind the rear seats. Miraculously I found the little clip and got the latch fastened as well. So far, so good, but the clamshell is not closing or opening. I have

2003 Boxster Convertible Top Relay Issue
mypctechs posted a topic in 986 Series (Boxster, Boxster S)
Hey all, I have an intermittent issue with a convertible top on a 2003 Boxster. After the car has sat for over a week the convertible top won't go up or down via the switch on the dash. Thanks to the great advice on these forums I was able to eliminate a lot of potential problems (parking break dash light, micro switches, blown fuses). Then I came to some suggestions involving the relay panel and, sure enough, if I pull a relay and put it back in, the convertible top switch on the dash works again. What I can't figure out is why this works. It seems like I'm pulling the wrong relay? I 'borro -
My top quit on me so I got a whole lot of info from you guys and found my hydraulic tank was below MIN I followed the advice of this forum and added fluid to my top (it was below MIN). The cylinders now work well, but I think either the sync is off or I screwed something up messing with it before I finally checked the fluid. So here's what going on: 1) I start by mechanically opening up the 'hook latch' on the front of the top (top is in the half way closed position). 2) I continue to close it....it closes and latches. And then there is the back lid motor running but does NOT close the b

The convertible top on my Boxster has a verticle tear close to the seam. I'd like to replace it with a Porsche part, but my local dealer quoted $3200 just for the part (labor not included). That seems outrageous, since the OEM part seems to be available on-line for less than $1000. I don't want to attempt the labor myself. Any advice is appreciated.

Does anyone know where I might find a used rear lid motor assembly. I think the worm drive in mine is stripped. It makes it's motor noise, but no movement. I've attached a pic showing unit (part#2). Thanks

**** PLEASE IGNORE -- Answered my own question **** Couple of questions regarding the wind stop storage bag... I bought a wind stop from SunCoast and it didn't come with what I recognized as a usable storage bag for the wind stop. It came with something that looked like it should fit over a spare tire, and may or may not be able to contain the wind stop. But looking on my rear deck lid, I noticed a canvas piece of kit that I then reached in and took out. Lo and behold, it's a wind stop carrying bag (albeit, a bit faded). It's got these two metal snaps on it, too, which I can't figure o

Hi Does anyone have recent experience of replacing the convertible top on a 996 in UK? I have found several companies advertising on the web but would like to hear from happy / unhappy customers before parting with cash. From other posts I understand this is not DIY'able? I live in Ireland but options over here are severely limited. Thanks Andy

Looking for some advice...entering the "cold" season here in northern california and so I've been driving with the convertible top up a bit more and I've noticed that at highway speeds I'm hearing what I'd call "creaking" (which is different of course from "squeaking" or "rattling") coming from the convertible / cabriolet top. If I put my right hand palm up on the inside of the roof and press, the creaking will be silenced. Pushing in other areas has no effect. Pushing on the right spot feels like there is probably a roof support right under my palm. As I've mentioned, its a problem only

I am buying a 996 Cab. The clamshell opens and you can hear a motor whirring but the top will not move. I can open/close the top manually. Anyone have an idea as to what that may be?
