  2. Hi8Ha did you put new connectors on or just splice close to connectors and use shrink wrap on soldered splice..any tips are appreciated. Thanks
  3. 1999 996, weekend ride, garage kept, 77k miles I had a bulb burnt out in drivers side headlight , pulled out to replace and all wires have insulation just crumbling off exposing bare wire. I spend an hour putting some electrical tape where I could but feel this is a temp measure. It seem Porsche does not sell this harness(inside the headlight fixture). Has nay one rewired these or found another solution? Thanks
  4. need radio code 1999 996 type 4362 serial x5014016 thanks
  5. I had this same issue on my 99 cab, replaced alternator, battery still no joy--problem was the wiring harness from alternator to starter, cheap to fix and a DIY. Good luck
  6. Leak is probably in one of your hydro cyclinders on either side of the car. This is typical of older cab(I have a 99). I had mine rebuilt by a guy here in florida
  7. I also had sepperation of the plastic window on my 1999 996. I was quoted 600. to fix(Tampa, Fl). My top was like new--so I tackled repair myself following the DIY on this site, took a weekend, but endeed up fantastic, only cost 25 in supplies and I will get more useful life out of my top . Replacing the canvas is a very chalenging job, I know someone who tried
  8. Give Zig a call at the address/number here-he can rebuild save big $$. He rebuilt mine and all works great!! Cabriolet Hydraulics 2331-R 63rd Ave. East Bradenton, FL 34203 www.cabriolethydraulics.com
  9. My 99 C2 has an interesting charging issue, first I have just installed a rebuilt alternator and new battery. All seems well at first with the meter showing charging at 14 volts(approx) while driving. However as the weather gets warmer here in Florida and I run the AC I notice that the meter shows just over 12 volts charging(neeedle near bottom of gage. Car always starts fine. The needle also seems to drop when the cooling fans kick on to bring temps down. Any ideas or has anyone had similar issue--again already did new alternator and battery. Could this be a switch issue or something else? I know thae charging system is not complex-is this normal? Thanks in advance for assistance
  10. I need to get my rear window stitched on my 99 cab. Looking for a referral in Tampa to do the job. Someone had refered BJ's upolstory on Florida Ave, but their "convertible top" guy has not shown up twicw when I dropped of car. Recommendation would be appreciated Thanks in advance
  11. my 99 996 cab with 60k miles has the rear window coming unglued from the top. Top is still in good shape I want to get rear window stiched in to repair. I am looking for a referal of a shop that does this in the Tampa Fl area. Thanks in advance!
  12. I've seen the cylinder itself when I was in there topping off the fluid, but wasn't sure if it's as simple as unbolting off the old one, transferring over the hoses and re-bolting on the new one. Any tips would be appreciated. I hear that removing the back interior 'door' panel can help. I had mine rebuilt with new seals by guy in Florida, like new for a lot less than new
  13. I had mine rebuilt by guy ibn Florida, PM me and I will give you contact info
  14. I have a problem with my 1999 996 CAB top, first my rear window delaminated and I founnd a shop that would stich in a new one. I had not dropped my top for several wweks and it would only unlatch at the windsheild and time out! I manually got the clamshell open and discovered that one of the hydraulic rams was leaking. I have pulled that and am getting it rebuilt(saves a lot as Porsche wantts $600. for one) My question is why di my clamshell not open? it is driven by a motor not hydraulics. When I manuallyu open and close it(by using emergency procedures in the manual, I can feel resistance, but I assume that is because the motor is resisting. Any ideas on what could go wrong with the drive mechanism of the clamshell, looks like motor and cable would be easy DIY. What does a new or used clamshell drive unit cost? Thanks for help in advance
  15. I have a 99 C2 tip with 61K miles, recently I noticed pieces of foam(or what looks like foam) coming out of my A/C ducts when I run A/C fan on high. Very small peices, almost didn't notice them until I was cleaning interior. Any idead what this is? Is there foam insulation on the duct work? Thanks
  16. I have a 1999 996 with about 53000 miles, tiptronic tranny. My issues is at 2800 rpm when on the highway in 5th gear, i get a surge under acceleratrion almost like the tranny kicks down a gear(from 5 to 4), but the rpm's do not increase and the gear indicator still shows 5th gear, any idea what may be happening? Has any one else had this occur. Thanks to all in advance
  17. I bought rebuilt alternator from Pelican Parts for around $300., put it in myself took a little over 1 hour --easy DIY
  18. Battery went dead and I noticced the guage sometimes showed only 12 volts when running at 2000rpm. I tested with my battery charger-it has a test function to test the alternator. It showed a fault. My car is 99 996 with about 50000 when alternator went bad. Idid search on the sight and foound DIY, really was an easy projecy- good luck
  19. Any advice you can give me on removing the alternator in my Boxster. I have the two bolts removed that attached the alternator to the engine, but the alternator won't budge. It looks like it needs to be rotated clockwise a little before it will slide out, but I can not get it to rotate. Where there instructions listed on how to remove the alternator, because I could not find any? Thanks. Loosen the bolt that runs thru the pully(the bolt on right as you look at it) a few turns, then tap with a hammer to push the bushing out in the back of the alternater a few mm. You should spray some wd40 on the bushing too. This frees up the alternator to be turned clockwise and removed easily. ZThis is the method described in shop manuel--it worked for me. Good luck.
  20. Those 2 lines are to control the resonance flap on the back crossover intake tube. They start at the electric changeover valve (behind alternator) and one goes to the vacuum reserve canister and the other to the flap. Thanks for info--what does the resonance flap due?
  21. Alternator died on my 99 996 c2. I replaced it this weekend, thanks to info posted on this forum it was easy job. As an FYI I want to let everyone know that their are 2 hard plastic vacuum lines running over top of the alternator (not sure what they are for). Be careful they are brittle and break very easy(don't ask how I know) and are a real pain to replace because of minimal clearance on top of engine. Thanks to all contributors on the forum.
  22. my fuel guage moves clear to reserve, including turning on the light, when I go into a turn hard with 1/4 tank of gas or less. Is this normal or is there a problem with my sneding unit?? It goes back to accurate reading after turn.
  23. Does anyone have any pointers on touching up the silver interior pieces like the small pieces on the door and the hood and engine compartment lid releases. Any ideas on matching paint, etc. 1999 996 Cab
