  1. Bumpers are fairly easy to re-spray or even replace. I added a 911 bumper to my Boxster and repainted both it and my hood about 45K miles ago for about $1,000 (new bumper and paint job). Getting ready to do it again in the spring. This time will definitely add a 3m bra.
  2. Spring color codes should have some dabs of paint white and yellow.
  3. Yes, it looks like your missing a water drain tube. Both sides should be about 12" long. Part Number 986-561.834.02 About $45.00 List Check Sunset for a better price! KBrandsma
  4. Part Number 986-561-583-00-01C WIND DEFLECTOR LEFT - List $150.37 Check Sunset probably a little cheaper. You can buy them used on Craigslist or eBay for about $150.00 a pair. You got a PM KBrandsma
  5. Here is a DIY written by Logray describing how he built an expensive vacuum gauge. PRESS HERE
  6. If you have a Fault Code 21, it is an ignition circuit driver problem on the clock spring under the steering wheel airbag. If you have a fault code of 45,46 or 48 or 49 you have a seat belt wiring harness problem. The later codes can be found in a Porsche Technical Service Bulletin #6924. The TSB involves replacing 2 or 4 pins depending on which seat. The old wires contain more tin in the fittings and the tin eventually causes connectivety problems and thus the seatbelt light comes on. The new pins contain more gold and less tin. You also replace the buckle and install new ground wiring harnesses.
  7. It's a good idea to buy a set of o rings and a couple of tubes and every time you change your plugs you can replace those that are leaking. Fairly inexpensive, I change my plugs every 30K and have changed 1 tube and 3 sets of o rings over the last 3 spark plug changes. MY98 is currently at 180K. Also a good idea to have a boat plug on hand for popping out the tube. I bought mine from a local boat/marine store for less than $5. It literally pops out like your finger from a coke bottle.
  8. You can clean it up by spraying electrical cleaner into the female end of the bucket and also use canned air to blow it dry. Some also remove the seat and clean the attachments at the grounding point. What are your codes?
  9. If replacing your coolant Pedro's DIY is an excellent source! PRESS HERE
  10. It is used for the OEM Phone Option. I was looking for the male mate but I ended up just tapping into the switched power wire #2 (green/black) with a wire tap. #1. RED/GREEN - +12V from the battery. It comes from fuse E6, However, check to see if it needs a 7.5a fuse & a second fuse contact installed on the fuse panel to be active. #2. GREEN/BLACK - +12V from ignition switch, powered with key in position II & III, and is powered by fuse E8. #3. YELLOW/BLACK - telephone mute from black A radio plug pin 3. #4. BROWN - ground
  11. Recently upgraded to Durametric Professional, located North of Seattle in Everett, WA .
  12. You have electrical micro-sensors attached to interior and exterior door handles that drops the window when opening the doors and raises the window when door is closed. Most likely the one on the passenger's side needs to be replaced. When there is a faulty micro-switch the light on the Central Locking Switch on the dash does strange things. You can try removing and spraying the connections in the door with electrical cleaner but more times than not they just need to be replaced. Unfortunately they don't sell only the electrical micro-sensor replacement part and you have to buy the entire door locking assembly. The part number (for a 1999 - 996) is 3B1-837-016-P for right door and costs about $190-$200. Check with Sunset Porsche for a possible better price.
  13. Actually, in this case I believe the Durametric will not work because the problem is not a fault, but a system coding issue, which requires a PST II or PIWIS to correct. Sorry, I was referring to theredcouch's question in thread #3 above.
  14. You can also use the Durametric Tool to reset the airbag in your case besides a PST2 or PIWIS tester.

  16. I had similar leaks underneath the car and re-torqued oil sump pan bolts and leaked stopped. 7.5 ft./lbs. Don't overtighten as they will snap off. Clean everything up and re-check for leaks. If that doesn't work you may need a new gasket and sealant.
  17. I would recommend three gallons or higher. I have a smaller compressor and it can't maintain 90+ PSIG and it takes me 4 or five pump runs in order to get the pressure to 22+ inches of vacuum. I can get there but it takes a while. A larger compressor would be preferred. KBrandsma
  18. This is a DIY on care and treatment of the cabriolet top. Porsche recommends regular maintenance by simply hosing off the top with high pressure water spray and the use of soap sparingly. But once a year I find it necessary to treat the top with a more thorough cleaner and a water repellant treatment. And for that I use RaggTopp. RaggTopp can be found online and prices are tough to beat at Amazon. The cleaner will last several treatments and the protectant only one treatment. You can also buy a kit that comes with a soft brush for cleaning. Use short circular strokes to clean the cabriolet well. Then rinse it well. I let it dry thoroughly in the sun, then mask it off and use a whole can of the protectant. I let the protectant dry thoroughly, then wash the car to remove any overspray. During a recent rain (hard to believe I know , rain in Seattle!) The protectant worked great!

  20. Can you make a recording of the sound? Usually it means you left the lights on. Do you have an aftermarket GPS or an On Board Computer(OBC?)

  22. I use Ragg Topp fabric cleaner with a soft brush once a year, followed by Ragg Topp Fabric Protector spary after it drys thoroughly.
  23. I have a MY98 986 Boxster 2.5 L 5 speed and don't have that tube. Is it front head light cleaner supply line? perhaps someone else can chip in that has one?
