  1. Best to purchase new from Sunset Porsche which is one of the board sponsors.
  2. Fellow Renntech Board Members, I was reminded today that I haven't made my annual pledge of support to Renntech. Renntech is such an awesome site and if you haven't considered donating this year now is the time. It is non-profit and needs your continuous support to meet expenses and keep it operational. Plus if you haven't donated before, you will be upgraded to a "Contributing Member" and gain further access to other site features and offerings. Thanks Renntech! :thankyou:
  3. You should also remove the J tube (plastic tube connecting the AOS to the throttle body) and check it for oil. Oil coming from the engine vent could also indicate a possible oil fill tube crack or oil heat exchanger leak. How is your oil level?
  4. If you do have the AMP, it means you also have door speakers which is a good thing in that the wiring is already in place and upgrading the speakers is fairly straight forward. You'll want to upgrade the dash speakers as well as the stock (paper coned) Nokias aren't very good.
  5. DaveN996, What are your Option Codes? Is M490 one of them? The reason I am asking is that you may not have an AMP. The AMP is between the spare and the battery Option Codes Location: AMP Location:
  6. Dave, If you move the climate control to the bottom DIN, all you will need is a special face or trim plate to finish it off. The electrical connections for the climate controls are long enough and may need to be re-routed to fit. Lower bezel part number is 996-552-339-00-01C less than $10.00 from Sunset Porsche.
  7. Most likely side marker mod is the culprit. Re-engineer and see if the problem persists.
  8. Follow Ahsai's advice. Most likely a faulty regulator which is a $35 fix. Save your money and donate to Renntech!
  9. Magnetic drain plug is highly recommended. I've gotten the Autozone Special of 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and receive a Mobile 1 filter. The clerk tried to substitute an STP filter and when I balked he upgraded to the K&N filter which is a good deal. By far the filter of choice is the Wix/NAPA Gold 57211 per JFP's post above. In Western Washington the best oil prices are currently at Wallmart at $22.95 for a 5 qt. container of Mobile 1.
  10. Usually replacing the electrical switch will do the trick. However I have found on several cars that replacement of the entire barrel assembly was necessary.
  11. The Boxster has 6 drains to check. They are black and look like little donuts or grommets. There are 2 in the front on either side of the battery and 4 in the back. Raise your clamshell and you will see one at the bottom on either side of the black plastic liner. Easily seen when you have the top part way open and there's also one on either side of the channel almost below the front tip of the clamshell by the door jam. Here is a link to Mike Focke's website with more info regarding Boxster drains. https://sites.google.com/site/mikefocke2/drainsdiagram
  12. Welcome to Renntech! Where exactly is the water leaking? Can you take a picture and post. :welcome:
  13. I'm assuming you have a CDR 220 Radio. Check this thread! PRESS HERE
  14. Hi Chady Saliba, The top transmissions can be adjusted with a cordless drill (set to a low torque setting). Here is a link explaining the procedure in greater detail. These usually need to be readjusted after replacing a bad transmission or a replacement of a broken (or stretched) transmission cable. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/20917-adjusting-clamshell-after-cable-break/
  15. There are a few posting right here on Renntech regarding suspension upgrades. PRESS HERE
  16. I agree with White987S. I think you have other issues than struts and coils. However, if your looking for an improvement in the standard suspension I would suggest that you consider the Porsche M030 (US) sport suspension upgrade. It doesn't sound like you spend a lot of time fighting speed bumps in parking lots or encounter a lot of pot holes and it is a definite improvement. Although the side streets and some main streets in the Emerald City have a few!
  17. Here is a tool for sale that was created by a Renntech member. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/46926-fs-996-rear-main-seal-installation-tool/
  18. Best to run it from HU under dash on passenger's side over glove box and up the A pillar. If you look at the side of your dash with the front passenger door open there will be a piece that pops off and fish wire up the A pillar. There will be a torx screw at the top of the A pillar, remove the torx screw and pull pillar away but not out. and continue to route the mic wire to the front of the headliner and to the center console.
  19. Check to see if there is someone in your area that might be of help. Not sure where Clinton is and NY is a big state.
  20. I have not heard of them failing. My 986 has both the display and dipstick and I have never used the dipstick but once or twice after I first bought the car. It must be very reliable for Porsche to drop the dipstick altogether. I'd drop the oil filter and see if the level falls, Won't hurt!
  21. Here's been a good spot. I like to keep them to the right side of the driver.
