  1. If your expansion tank has never been changed it might be leaking. The tank sits above the HOT muffler and cooks until it gets brittle and cracks on the bottom. Often the crack is small at first and only leaks when it is under pressure while the engine is hot. Look in the area under the shelf for signs of leaking. Also look at the bottom of the water pump. If your blue cap ends in a number other than -04 get a new one. They are under ~$20 in the US.
  2. If your car is stored outdoors in the rain and the drains in the area under the battery/brake booster are clogged you can get water in the booster. The booster on early cars (pre-2001?) has a vent in the bottom. When the tray under the booster fills with water the bottom of the booster is/can be under water. The water can get into the booster through that vent. If enough water gets in it can make it's way to the engine through the vacuum line and cause engine damage. Later cars have the vent location moved away from the bottom.

  4. I have not had any experience with URO regulators but they sure seem to make a lot of Euro car parts. I would try it. Even if it only lasts 1/2 as long you are still ahead of the game. For that matter, how great was the original if you (and it seems many others) are replacing it/them? Porsche does not make the stock one. Who does? Is it Bosch? URO?

  6. Was it smoking from both sides? If so probably AOS. If only one side might be a deeper problem. These head gaskets normally do not blow.

  9. Any vacuum leak can contribute to a rough idle. Look closely at that connector. I think the hose is inserted into the elbow and sealed with an "O" ring. Find a new elbow first.   10. On the first lift there will be air in the system if you don't have the arms or some weight on it they won't synchronize during lift and will take forever, hours, to go down. After you get the lift bolted down, raise it all of the way and let it down again. Then raise it again and bleed it. Mine is very slow going down after the weight is off, last 3-4 inches. I bungee the lever "open" and stand on the arms to get it down flat. Just bleed the cyls at the top with the bleeder screws when there is pressure. I stand on the arms. Don't empty the reservoir. Like bleeding the brakes you need fluid and pressure to do it right. If there is no pressure you can take the bleeder screw out. You don't have to when you are bleeding the system. Once again it is like bleeding the brakes.
  11. There is a TSB for 996 cab about a squeak above the drivers head. There is a black rubber spacer block that squeaks against the top frame on bumpy roads. Mine was very loud when temps got below ~40. I put a little silicone grease on mine and it stopped the noise. The TSB suggests "Gummiphlege" SP? Maybe the Boxster has similar blocks. Open the top 1/2 way and look.
  12. Why don't you close the hood? Run the wire from the windshield side under the hood. There are no sharp edges or seals to crush wires between there and the battery. The charger wire will be free to move around some. I put a two pin "trailer" plug on my battery and maintainer, plug them together and close the hood.

  14. Mine comes off when I remove the manual seat lowering handle, (not on yours) and pull out at the bottom just to clear the opening in the seat pan and down to release the hooks that slide in at the top.
  15. I used 117", Next time I will use 125". If you use 115" centering the car will be very critical, both front to back and side to side. If they are too close together you won't have room to extend the arms a little to make up for a couple inches off center. I also use the lift on our ML350 SUV and Subaru Outback. The LongHorn TP lift was $1,9xx + delivery. (two weeks ago it was $1,7xx) So maybe ~$100-150 less than MaxJax

  17. Mine re-sets at whatever speed I'm at by pushing the lever forward. Just push the lever forward when you are at the speed you want. If I want a slower speed I touch the brake coast down, and push the lever forward.
  18. Check the two "tabs" that go into the windshield header. They should have plastic covers on them. One of mine broke off and the tab rattled until I replaced it. Also if you have a squeak above your ear (sounds like it is behind you) put the top in the service position and put a dab of silicone grease on the rubber rubbing block in the top. You will see where it rubs by the wear marks on it (them, both sides)
  19. How will the car know the new transmitter code? Only if the dealer programs it. The code in old pill will only enable the car to start NO HELP for the new TRANSMITTER code.
