  1. Get a UV flashlight with UV sunglasses from auto parts stores. Most refrigerant contain dye that can be spotted by UV to help you identify leaks.
  2. Nicely done. I usually don't have much to fill up the trunk so never had the need for this. It looks very nicely done especially when viewed from exterior.
  3. I wouldn't even take my beater car to AAMCO or any of those chain stores like Sears, Midas. I'd find an indept shop that specializes in Porsche if dealer is more $$.
  4. You can ask your local service advisor to pull the warranty history on the car with a VIN. Watch for multiple RMS. To get repair history outside of warranty, you'll have to call up the dealer where the PO is located. This assumes that that's where he goes for repairs. Ideally, PO should provide service and repair history.
  5. Old fluid typically has darker color as said. Sometimes, you'll see some bubble in the line as well. Typically, there isn't that much to be flushed out. A litre should have 1/4 left over so if you use a full litre, you're definitely flushing out all the fluid. As KevenC said, the rear ones need to bleed out more.
  6. I looks like a hot air intake to me. There is a thread on Rennlist that a new style intake is coming out for under $400. It'll have dyno soon. I would not do homemade stuff as the air turbulence can rob HP. I do like the clean look though. Where is this thread that you pulled pics? I'd be interested to hear impressions of it. Most intkae make more noise and not more power.
  7. Does the green cc indicator come on when you press it? Does it just not hold the speed when you push the rod forward to set speed? On my previous car, the CC would not keep speed sometimes. It went away with some fuse pull in and out. Check it carefully and swap with another fuse if you have to. If it's always bad, I would suspect something wrong with the cc module.
  8. It's not plug and play. The MOST digital bus requires an activation of the changer. I believe a PST2 tool is needed which is usually only available at dealers and Porsche indept shops. Spend the money and get it done or hook up an iPOD or XM.
  9. I think you need to scrub. Does this product clean without scrubbing? If so, that is a very strong solvent that I have not seen. As for rust protection, I'd not remove the cosmoline if you drive in snow.
  10. 10w60? Never heard of such viscosity. It's definitely not approved by Porsche. Syntec is on the approved oil list but not this weight. I'd not do it. Stick with approved oil or weight at very least.
  11. If you don't want to get things wet, you can use some simple green and wipe everything down. If you want to get it washed, get some detergent and brush / pads to scrub things down. Then hose it off.
  12. I don't think so. I think Porsche approves Mobil One and Castro Syntec only. I can be mistaken though. Your manual would state the oil list. Just because the oil isn't approved doesn't mean it's not good tho. The oil maker simply didn't test and certify it with Porsche. Are you using regular Shell Synthetic stuff? My local shop only carries 10w30 and 5w30. Both are not the right weight.
  13. I believe they are made by BBS. You can check if they are sold by BBS thru a local dealer. If you are looking for a set, dealer or ebay are your best choices.
  14. shop on ebay and contact local speed shops to see if any are avail. Check craigslist. Post WTB on rennlist and speedonline.
  15. Are you planning to get speakers in the doors as well? THat would require new door panels right? It's amazing that Porsche put out crappy stereo. Even the HIFI was a joke. I recall learning about the 2 spkr std stereo at dealer and was very put off by it back in 2000. I bot a different car then that cost me 1/3 the price and much faster.
  16. Just get a donut on ebay for 996. It'll take 1/3 of trunk and cheaper than buying new from dealer. The tire slime will ruin the tire if it's got a nail puncture. Tire shops will not patch / plug a slimed tire full of goo and it'll be heavier than other tires which will wear out your differential and brakes. Spare only weight 20 lb tops with the jack. It's good to have it on the front to balance weight too.
  17. Frame less doors may look better and is a must for cabs. However, I hate the extra noise and lack of security.
  18. fold the mirror to see if that helps. besides the window seal, check door seal as well.
  19. It may be a software glitch with the tranny. I'd visit the dealer to have them see if any error code.
  20. I really don't understand the question that you are asking. The filter does hang onto the engine block just like how it looked when the housing is removed. There is no spindle on the oil filter housing. You just push up the paper filter the same way you pulled the old one out. Then you screw tight the housing. The housing will tighten the seal of the filter to the engine block.
  21. How well does the windor seal against the a pillar? Is any of the door seal misplaced? Does the window rattle?
  22. Some times rotating the tires help. If they are directional and F&R sizing is different, there isn't much you can do.
  23. Wow, didn't know RX400h are in high theft category. Too bad. I keep my keys in my bedroom. You'll want to reset your garage door opener to erase all remote codes. Stealing from someone's own house takes guts. I think this is a pro job. Just think you were luckly not to have confronted the thief. The car is always easy to replace. Hope your insurance is good about it. I'd put some chains or locks on your bikes even when garaged.
