  1. Job is almost finished. While i was in there i pulled my battery tray and sanded it then i painted it. Rust is not good. Few questions, i noticed another blend door that was not accessible. I tried to put some tape on it. Ideas anyone? I cut off the top pivot point on the blend door i removed. What did you guys do to cover this part. I will try to finish up tomorrow and test this fix. 1999, 996.
  2. I am working thru this problem also. I have the top work done, getting ready to do the servo arm. So far so good. Checking in from south east Texas btw.
  3. Mine has started throwing the code again, last time all I had to do was replace the gas cap, and keep it tight. Here we go again. It lasted almost 10 years with the last fix.
  4. I was able to work mine out with out problems. It was tight but doable. Mine is a tip and I have a clutch type pulley. Is this normal?
  5. I have had no leaks, so far. where is some wood to knock on.... Is your leak coming from an overflow tube? It has been a while since I posted this so I can not remember if it has an over flow tube.
  6. I too looked at a Max Jack. It was just a little too big for my space and garage. Some day if I build a house I will design a garage with enough space for a full size lift. I purchased a EzCar lift. So far it has done a great job for my needs.
  7. I have really enjoyed using mine. So far it has saved money and time for me. I try to do as much as I can on my car. With the Durametric and the forums I can do most anything. Yes it is a little expensive but worth it.
  8. Hey guys, I changed the diff fluid in my 99 tip. It was really pretty easy. I purchased a suction tool at Autozone and a quart of Royal Purple 75w90. I put her up and pulled the left rear tire off. I think the hex was a 8mm short. Pulled the drain/check bolt and sucked out as much fluid as I could then I pumped fluid untill it was at the same level as before-even with the drain. I spent a lot of time letting the fluid settle to make sure it was full. easy job.
  9. The hardtop on my BMW sure makes the car much quieter. As long as my mounting points are correctly adjusted I have had no noise problems. My Porsche is a hardtop.
  10. Wow, a lot of information here. I have one of the replacement engines in my car. I am at about 60k miles by my best guess. I purchased the car without records. Is this a problem I have to look forward to and can my engine be serviced with an aftermarket bearing? So far the car is doing well. I put about 7500 miles a year on it.
  11. Today when I went to tilt my sunroof to a vent position the liner assembly did not tilt with the sunroof. Anyone have some direction on this problem. I looked between the sunroof and the liner with the roof tilted but was not too sure what I was seeing. I bet I have a broken clip or something like that. The sunroof will still open and close with out binding. I tried to search but had no luck, lots of rattles posted and that fix seems doable. How should I reattach my liner assembly to my sunroof? 99 C2 Tip, 137,000
  12. Wow, that is really cool. I would like to see some pics from under the car. I thought we had some car guys on my block but my hat is off to you.
  13. I am thinking about installing a battery tender. Where are you guys installiing the charging leads?
  14. Loren, I have spun my Tip on several occasions at driver ed events. I have never noticed any problems, is there anything I should be aware of?
  15. I have tried long sticks set up like long q-tips . It did not really do much good. You might make sure your vent tubes are working.
  16. I do not use one. But, do you track your car? This looks pretty good. I like the idea of always having oil going where it needs to be. I have put the x51 oil pan on my car and was impressed with the baffles. I use mine as a daily driver and once a month I try to go and autocross. This might be an overkill for me.
  17. My cars temp is normally between the 8 and the 0. I have taken my bumper off and cleaned and straightned the fins on the radiators and condensors. My temp does go higher when at the autocross, this last weekend it got as high as just over 1/2 way through the 0. I have been running water wetter for the last few years. So far so good.
  18. I replaced my motor mounts and the exhaust tips are now even. I am still having some vibration and suspect the trans mount. As far as building your own part, I one time cut down some boat trailer rollers and reformed them for a wishbone type of mount on a volvo. It worked like a charm.
  19. Wicked 996, that is a neat idea to put louvers in the fender wells . I might just have to look at my car. So far I have been fine in the temp dept., last summer I cleaned and combed my radiators and condensers. I also run water wetter. (it might be snake oil but it does not seem to hurt.)
  20. On my BMW this feature is controlled by the mirror selector adjustment switch. See if it still does the same with the other side selected. If it is on the left then try leaving it on the right the next time you shift gears.
  21. Sounds like you need to have the front end checked and a good alignment is in order. My fronts have been doing great, my rears were wearing out every 8-10 thousand. 2+ sets of rears to 1 set of fronts. I had the alignment adjusted and so far my rears are lasting. Time will tell. BTW, I also autocross.
