  1. And I thought I was NUTS ( actually I know that for a fact) for trying to put a 400+ hp DFI Carrera S into my 04 986 - got all the mechanical issues out of the way (I hope) now dealing with the tons of electronic issues. GOOD LUCK guy hope to see you at the track someday. When do you anticipate being done with this project? We should start a club or something. WOW I like it.
  2. Sounds like you may have accidentaly pulled the small vacuum line off the intake plenum or the reservoir , It is located right next to the AOS (small plastic tube) there is a y fitting in the vicinity too, but they are delicate and easily pulled out. check you pet catalogue illustraion 108-05
  3. It could be that you would not have a puddle on your garage floor because the under tray could catch a lot of oil but it most likely is not a severe leak. However if it is leaking you don't want to ignore it because it will cost you triple or more later. The prices are in line with dealer rates but I would find a shop familiar with Porsches and get a quote from them.
  4. Just guessing here because I can't hear the noise you are describing but it could be the AOS failing or just a pin hole int the breather tubes to the aos. These things fail all the time .
  5. You do know you are supposed to put the top up during rain ? right ? Check all your seals of the top it could be leaking just behind the window and never go to the drain just dumps behind your seat belt and runs down to the floor.
  6. Do you think it was wise to contiue driving it in that condition? Sound like either the clutch plate failed or possibly the dual mass flywheel seperated. whichever, don't drive it you will just make it twice as expensive as it has to be. Check your cv joints first. if you have a high milage car they do wear out and raise a lot of h*** when you drive if they are OK then pull the transmission and check you flywheel and clutch assy.
  7. Congratulations on your purchase There is no break in to the clutch but you don't want to be slipping it either. Make sure you take your foot all the way off the pedal after release. If you are doing that and it is slipping take it back to the dealer and let him check it.
  8. check this one out, I think this might be a good way to go - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/boxster-cayman-forum/596943-2003-boxster-s-spyder-engine-14-500-a.html
  9. So far I'm about $15k intos it and counting.there will be at least another 2k spent. The engine has under 10k miles on it , according to the manual its not even broken int yet.
  10. sounds like an exhaust leak propably at the head. If that is the case you don't want to let that go too long it can damage the head.
  11. Finally decided to stop talking about it (2 yrs) and just do it. Off to a slow start but making some progress Carrera S engine. Here are a couple of pics. Check out utube - old engine for sale
  12. Harry, On Pelican's site, JFP said that the car that flywheel came off of. Had the same or similar marks on the sensor and that is an after market lightweight flywheel. I have no idea what this thing has in it.(mine?) But I now understand, (kinda) It creates, in my opinion, an electromagnetic field/electrical signal because of it, that sends a signal upstream. I accidentally set an ink pen, with the top on it and the pocket holder attached next to the sensor and it stuck to it. What I'm not sure of. What part of this thing sits close to the flywheel. Given that it has a large plastic surround, around the metal rod and it is perfect. It's not my intention to drag this thread out. But I think how and why something works is important. It leads to why something doesn't. I love learning!!! Randy Like JFP said, the center of the sensor (shiny part) is extremely close to the flywheel in order to trigger the sensor, but if that shiny part in the center is in good condition then thats not your problem.
  13. Is this where I ask if I have posted yet? You got me there.
  14. check this link out http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/70-BODY-Convertible_Glass_Window/70-BODY-Convertible_Glass_Window.htm
  15. Broken engine mount will cause that too, usually the front one breaks from doing hard launches, buy a Cayman one or Pedros garage has a decent one.
  16. Here is what ln engineering says. I think if I allready lost and engine to oil starvation I would be tempted to use a manual valve. but you were correct in your setup. I was wrong :notworthy: The Electric Pressure Control Valve we use is for a discharge/refill of 35-40 PSI. These valves have the convenience of an electric valve for remote mounted units on daily drivers but with the rapid refill rate of a manual valve as required in racing. The E.P.C. valving will only allow the Accusump to discharge oil when the engine's oil pressure drops below a predetermined level and only refill when the pressure rises above that level. For a dedicated track car or for best performance, a manual valve is recommended, but isn't as clean and streamlined as the E.P.C. valving for a street setup. With the electronic valve, you don't know it's working as it's supposed to be seamless – but I'd recommend addition of a shift light or some other indicator to tell you that the accusump is actually actuating. We suggest adding a toggle to have a "valet" mode so that you can turn the accusump off, as we normally recommend wiring the E.P.C. valve to actuate at key-on. Alternatively, you can relay it so that it only is operating when the fuel pump is going, negating the need for a "valet" mode. Alternatively, a manual valve is the sure fire way to know the system is working. You start the engine, switch the manual valve, drive, then shut off the valve prior to turning the engine off.
  17. nice work, the line through the rubber plug should work OK, I'm not sure that having the swith in the trunk is a good idea. really not sure, just seems like it should be in hand when turning off the ignition. what happened to your motor? and when did it quit on you?
  18. yes that could get very serious if it were to get entangled with the cam chain and possible jump a tooth, you would not want that. The only solution that I can think of is remove the cam (valve) cover and retrieve the plastic. You will need the Porsche special sealer or a really good silicone gasket maker for the cover. The workshop manual actually tells you when putting the cover back on to gently tap it on with a plastic hammer. be careful and good luck
  19. Does the wheel shake all the time at all speeds or just when you run over imperfections of the roadway? how many miles on your car? could be ball joints, bushings or as simple as you tires holding a flat spot when its cold. what brand tires do you have? the less expensive tires have a tendency to take forever to warm up and get rid of the flat spot which will cause a shaking.
  20. the O-ring needs to be seated all the way, wether or not that is causing the current smoke, I daubt it. Use white lithium grease, always worked for me. You may still have residual oil left in the intake, You should have taken the intake apart and cleaned thoroughly when you installed the new AOS. Not to put a cloud over your project the original AOS is prone to failure, I had one installed under warranty at around 36k and it failed less then a year later so I installed a Motorsport AOS which has been on for a year without any issues, I know its a pain but I would take the aos back out lube the o-ring and make sure it's seated all the way then take your intake apart and clean it out.- good luck
  21. //*same issue my friend. find a do it yourself article on how to bleed the air properly , you must be patient but it will work if you follow directions. Read this artlcle, at the end it tells you how to properly bleed it, http://www.pelicanpa...WATER-Flush.htm
  22. Man that sucks, I don't think the orange thing came from your car. have you had oil leaks before or is this new? It could be you shift cables on the right side of the transmission may have come loose or off and that will prevent you from gettin completely in gear. At least for your sake I hope that's what it is. Otherwise you will have to get it rebuilt or buy a used one from ladismantlers or craigs list. good luck and let us know what you found. Good luck oops .. missed the "trip" part - in my defense it was past my bedtime lol
  23. All I can tell you is if your plug tubes were leaking there would be no question about where it's coming from. you will have oil seeps here and there, mostly from the aos tubes. you have nothing to worry about from these photos.
  24. It's definately worth it if you intend to take yoru car to the track. you have to be a member to attend pca events and if you ever tried it you would get hooked. plus what Loren said about the magazine.
