  1. In 2004, when my 2000 C4 Cab was going out of warranty I tried to get the Porsche dealer to CPO the car. At first the saleman thought they could do it, I I later found out they can only do it for cars they are selling, but not for my car, even though I bought it from them. Some have talked about selling the car back to the dealer and them buying it back, but you would need the dealer cooperation, and woud probably have to pay taxes on the transaction. I ended up buying an EasyCare Gold Warranty that the dealer recommended, with a $200 deductible. Covered up to 75K miles (about 30K miles at the time I bought the warrantly) and 48 months additional time. This week they paid for an RMS replacement, no questions or even an inspection, just authorized the work at my Indy. This did not recoup the cost of the warranty, but I have another year of coverage.
  2. Toolpants is right, www.dennisvogel.com has the information you need. Look in his Boxster section for the article on heated seats. It is great and has many pictures. I did mine in the fall of 2005 using his instructions and adpated them for a 996. I can give you an updated parts list for the 996. If you have a coupe you can put the swtiches on the rear center console like the Boxster, in a cap you need the lower dash Batwing. It also helps to have a Service manual, but I can send you the info you need. I bought all the parts from Sunset for about $650. Did all the work myself except using the hog clips to secure the covers on the upper seat back centers. I got an upholstery shop to do this for $50, but you can by the clips and a set of pliers for about $20 from JC Whitney. The project took about 5-6 hours of my time and the results are grat, just like the factory setup. Let me know if I can be of help. GOOD LUCK
  3. When I upgraded to a 3 spoke wheel the airbag I found had a silver crest. You see black and grey airbags on ebay all the time, beige like mine are lot rarer, and they are often alot less than new. You also see sivler crests for sale regularly, although some concern had been raised as to putting one on an airbag (could it cause a problem if the bag activates?).
  4. Don't cut the leather, you don't need to. The center of the seat section comes out fairly easily. Check out this web site: http://www.dennisvogel.com/heatedseats/index.html There are instructions for installing heated seats in a boxster. I used these to intall heated seats in my 996 by replacing the foam cushions and installing the wiring, switches, etc. You can get a new foan insert with the heat grid for less that $100 from Sunset. You may need a upholstery shop to do the hog clips on the back center leather piece if you are not comfortable doing this yourself. I guess you could try to solder the grid/wires , BUT PLEASE DON'T CUT YOUR LEATHER!!! If you need some further help let me know.
  5. Note that if you install the switch, and connect the speedometer wire the PSE will go into quiet mode between 25 and 45 mph (I think this is the speed) even when the quiet mode is not seitched on. When I installed my PSE with the controls I did not make this connection so that I have "total" control on the loud vs quiet mode. It might also be possible to put a switch on this connection so that you wold have three modes.
  6. Try a screw/bolt extractor. You and get one and the required drill bit at the local hardware store. Nest time make sure you use a torqX socket so you don't strip the head.
  7. Dharn Do you think I cold cut out the heat grids out of the old cushions and slice/install them into the gt3 cushions? I don't think that would be the direction to go, lthey are embedded in the foam and I don't know how yolu would get them out, or more importantly get them into the other cushions. I will check to see if new cushions are available. I know the stock seat cushions with heat were only a few hundred dollars. Another alternative would be to add aftermarket heaters, I know one member did this. However, I don't think they would work with the OEM switches, wiring and relays.
  8. Watch Ebay. I got a replacement for my damaged 4 spoke for $150 w/airbag, and later upgraded to a 3 spoke for $350 w/airbag. I have a beige interior, and they are harder to find, there are blacks and greys there all the time. Usually $150-$400 or so.
  9. I added heated seat to my 996 by changing out the cushions and adding the electrics. The heat grids are built into the foan of the cushions, and the cushions are different for GT3 seats. I think they started offerring heated GT3 style seats in later years, so you may be able to order some. I can check my PET program when I am in the office if you would like.
  10. Just received the updated NAVtech CD's for my business partners PCM, but he can't get the CD drive to open/eject the existing CD. Both lights are on and we pressed the button to eject the CD, but it does not eject. We tried disconnecting the battery and re-entering the PCM codes, but ti only requests the code for the radio, not for the NAV. Any ideas on how to correct this?
  11. In the last month or two there have been two or three 996 engines with low miles on ebay, both 5.4 and 3.6, they wnet for $2,000-$4,000. No warranty but alot less than the numbers you are talking about.
  12. PM me with a email address and I will forward the manual pages in a DOC format. Also, if you need a flywheel let me know, I have a abrand new one that I wll sell for $350 plus shipping (part #996.114.012.03, list price is $947.32).
  13. Porsche went to Fuel injection with the 1969 911E, and all 911-996 since the early 1970's have been fuel injected.
  14. There are two style of cup holders. for 2001 and earlier there is a cup holder that fits in a DIN slot and has two individual trays that pop straight out. Beginning in 2002 (I believe it was 2002) the air vent was redesigned to be flat at the bottom, and a new type of cup holder was made standard, it pivots out and it not nearly as tall. Sould like you have the 2002 style cup holder. You can change the frame and horseshoe face to accomodate the new style cupholder. I can give you the part numbers if you really want to try this.
  15. I always wondered how Orient Express Kept his engine so clean, and once asked him in a post. Now I know, he justs replaces it when it gets dirty!!!!!!!!1
  16. If they won't cover it here is an alternative. 3.4 L w/28,000 mi. on Ebay for $5,800, buy it now for $6,200. Just thought you might to know. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-Eng...1QQcmdZViewItem
  17. There is a place on Ebay - Alan Gun Leather Accessories - that advertises for recovering and repairing steering wheels. My buddy talked to him about recovering his leather/carbon wheel as the carbon was cracked. Quoted about $250, but he found another complete all leather wheel for $126. He also inquired about recovering his console lid which was damaged and they said no problem. You might want to give them a call and get a quote on recovering the handles, has to be cheaper than buying new. Sorry I haven't seen his final work.
  18. I think these are the part numbers you are looking for: Left side 996 561 831 00 Right Side 996 561 838 00 also available as a set 996 561 937 00 There are 2 colors according to my copy of PET. Hope this helps!
  19. 100kp's work fine for the dash. but you will have to run new wires as the 100 kp's are component speakers with crossovers and the factory wires use a resistor and only one set of wires. I spliced into the wires at the output of the amplifier, and ran these to the crossovers, then new wires to the dash locations. You will need to use the frames from the old speakers as mounts for the 4.25 mids, some dremel work is also neccesary. The tweeters can be siliconed in. For the doors, the 5WS are good, again, some dremel work to make them fit, you can use the stock wiring. For the rears, 100kp's will work, but running new wires to these locations is a pain. You may want to consider some coaxials which can use the factory wiring. Do a search here and on Rennlist, there are lost of posts with great pictures and instruction. By the way, I bought my 100kp's from Woofersetc.com but I later found this place http://shop.store.yahoo.com/vipmobileonline/17.html and they seem to have better pricing. I haven't bought from them though. Rod from audioinovation.com can also set you up with the speakers already mounted, wiring harness, etc. with instructions. Some say you need a more powerful amp, and I am going to be installing one, but I can tell you that the speakers alone may an incredible difference.
  20. I am betting you are looking at the BBS LM's on Ebay, as I was too. They really won't fit a narrow body 996. I used the offset calculator on 1010tires.com to check. The standard whell is 10x18 with a 65 offset. With the 11x18 and a 56 offset it moves the outer edge of the tire/wheel out 22mm. It will hit badly, evne if the fenders are rolled. I have some experience with this as I bought a set of 18x18 with a 48 offset, which moves the wheel/tire out only 17mm and they are rubbing everytime I hit a big bump. I was almost goning to bid on the LM's but them did the calcs. Hope I saved you some trouble.
  21. I have almost all the parts you want as extras from my PSE install, everything but the grommets, sheath for electical connection and y-connectors. You are welcome to them. Unfortunatley, you are in Germany and I am in Chicago, USA. If you pay the shipping I am happy to send them. However, the parts are not that expensive so you may be better off just buying them locally. PM me if you want them.
  22. No way to tell from just those two pictures. Does the badge on the back say $?. Look in the trunk, the C4 has a much smaller trunk as the AWD takes up alot of space.
  23. In either 2001 or 2002 Porsche went to electrics for opening the turnk and engine lid. Prior to that change 996's had a one button remote, with the electrics they went to a two button remote. I think Boxters always had a two button remote for their trunks. So the tow button for a 06 won't work, although maybe just one button will work. If you look at posts on the new "911 Design Key" you will see discussions on this issue.
  24. That rear window is That rear window is REALLY small! I saw the add on ebay. If you can take the smaller window it may be neat. I know that the whole boot area and the roll bar assembly in 2002+ cars was changed to hold the newer style top with the large glass window.
  25. I just finished my PSE install last week. In your pictures I saw the two small blue flexible plastic objects, look like plugs. any idea what they are for. I had them but did not use them.
