  1. Hey all, I'm having a weird issue with my car, hoping someone can lend some advice to the fuel/evap system. 3 weeks ago i was sitting at a light on my way home from work and my CEL came on. I got home, ran the duramatric on it, and it came back as P0442. I figured I was a bone head and cleared the code and tightened the gas cap. About 250 miles later the exact same thing happened, sitting at a light and boom the CEL came back. My buddy has a Cayman, so we swapped gas cap's and I cleared the code hoping I could narrow the problem. Here I am 25 miles later, and the light has yet again returned when; low and behold I was sitting at a light. Where do I begin with this one? Is it strange the light only comes on when I'm in stop and go city traffic? Can the duramaertic test vacuum lines or the canister purge? I did a little research and it seems like this error code can be a handful of things, anyway I can avoid a smoke test or several hundred in parts by just replacing the whole system?
  2. I know in 2000 they made a millenium edition, http://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-marketplace/751466-millenium-edition-porsche-996-a.html Is it something like the pictures in there?
  3. Certainly sounds like a relay, I had a similar "gremlin" with my 94 Surburban, car would start and run then die randomly and crank, but not turn over. Then after sitting for 10 minutes the car would come back to life and be fine, turned out to be the fuel pump relay. I'd definitely try the starter relay first, check your manual to find the corresponding location. As far as the clutch switch goes; In my car, 2001, I hear an actual "click" when I put the clutch to the floor to engage the clutch microswitch before I start the car. http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-996-997-Carrera/93-ELEC-Brake-Clutch_and_Cruise_Control_Switch_Replacement/93-ELEC-Brake-Clutch_and_Cruise_Control_Switch_Replacement.htm There's a link from pelican parts on the microswitches Keep us posted.
  4. Just my .02 my top pump was running low, I bought and refilled it with Pentosin CHF 11S, that was 2 years ago, system runs perfect and I've never had any issues; I also havn't had to add any since I topped it off.
  5. It fell backwards not forwards, fell where the manifolds are.
  6. Resurrecting this thread slightly.... Has anyone ever lost the bolt that holds this coupler in.... it fell into the abyss when I unscrewed it to replace it; tried fishing with a magnet and flash light; found nothing except some oil residue and dirt; is it a lost cause? Do I need to worry about anything?
  7. Ordered everything from Luke at Suncoast, upgraded the lower clamp to a regular worm one, and bought a plastic OEM replacement. I'll have the parts and the car back together Wednesday. I ended up just cutting the Oetiker clam and had to squeeze out the remaining plastic bits as it broke as well. Thanks again for all the help!
  8. Weird slightly off topic question to really close this topic, the lower clamp on the plastic piece isn't a regular worm clamp; what's this called and how do I get it off?
  9. AHSAI.... you're a gentlemen and a scholar! That little crappy plastic thing was spewing its guts all over the block. Worst part was it was about 90% broken, but still looked fully intact. As soon as I touched it for inspection is snapped clean off and crumpled out of the tube. I see people did a brass modern fitting using a tubing kit from home depot, I think I'll do the same instead of shelling out the 1.23 for another plastic one. Thanks for the help! Glad to get my baby back on the road!
  10. After letting it drain and dry for a few days, I put paper towels under the car and started filling the resivor with water. Instantly a puddle formed under the car, as I looked with a flash light I am now able to track water coming from the pocket ABOVE the water pump... What's really baffling is the fact it's pouring out of the car without any pressure. Is there a coolant hose I'm not seeing? I checked the coolant resivor for cracks and wear but it was replaced 40k miles ago, and doesn't show any signs of discoloration. I'm about to just start tearing the car apart...
  11. Replaced the tstat gasket and tstat when I did the water pump.
  12. yea, it leaks when theres no pressure in the system, I was squeezing hoses hoping it would gush out of something, but no luck.
  13. Cleaned with a credit card and yes to a new gasket, also torqued to 10ft lbs. I looked around the pump and couldn't see it leaking anywhere around it. I did notice that some of the old gasket seemed almost burn into the engine block, it wouldn't come off but was flash against the block.
  14. Hey all, Looking for some help here. I developed a pretty bad coolant leak about a month ago, i was losing about 1 liter per week. When I got under the car i saw the dripping coming from the tip of the waterpump, and surrounding areas. Since the car had gone about 60k since it was last replaced I bought that and replaced it thinking that would be it. However, after assembling everything back together.... The leak seems to be coming out of whatever is next to it. Attached are a few pictures, any help as to what this is; or how to troubleshoot would be great!
  15. I have an 01, 3.4 that I just did the (wrong) Gundo hack to (cap to outlet pipe). I also have a set of mufflers from a 3.6 with the same mod. My question; for those who may know. What is the difference between these 2 mufflers and why one mod the right one way and one the wrong? From reading around for the past 30 minutes it seems people who have a 3.4 seek out the mufflers from the 3.6.... but they seem to look identical aside from the weird accordion pipe... does one come with magical exhaust elves inside of it?
  16. Funny, I just bought and replaced mine today, 150 on Craiglist and 2 hours of work to find out my passenger side strut was completely shot. No more noise, spoiler goes up and down, and best of all; no more light. Thanks for the help everyone!
  17. Had similar issue last summer in my 2001, took the TB apart and cleaned the whole thing. It's amazing to me how much gunk can get inside and affect the performance of airflow in the TB. I now do it every time i change my air filter.
  18. Thankfully ebay has the entire decklid for around 300, I'm hoping it's just the motor and nothing else, I'll dig in tomorrow.
  19. oh wow, i had no idea we had electric wings.... I'll try some lube. I assume there's no rebuilding these? they just have to be replaced?
  20. Hey all, My 2001 C2 cab has the dreaded spoiler warning light that comes on when the spoiler deploys at freeway speeds. The thing is, when i'm stopped and operate the switch, it goes up and down and makes some horrible noise. I'm not sure where to start; I saw a few tutorials for bleeding the system, but does that only apply to turbo's? I have a durametric but it doesn't seem to see any codes..... Any insight as to where to start or what to checkout? I assume it's something with the pump, I have pentosin on hand; just not sure how to go about the bleeding process. Thanks!
