  1. My top will not go down, the clam shell opens the hook releases but the pump doesn't run, I can manually push it down after releasing the hydraulic valve. I have a Durametic tool but it will not show me the state of the micro switches. I also have a Bentley manual but I cannot locate where they all are. Can any one help I got the top down but been having a bit of rain in Houston TX. and I live to drive. Thanks. EMAIL rjohnsonsprint38@earthlink.net
  2. The clam shell stopped opening, I hear the motor running, till the unit times out. I manually opened it, the clam shell motor runs but the output shaft doesn't turn. I removed the unit. part number "996.624.122.00" I found a repair kit part number "996.561.673.00" The problem is that I cannot take the drive unit apart to repair it. does any one know how? I removed the 4 screws that hold the plastic cover to the gear box but it only moves about a 1/8 inch and stops. Thanks for the help.
  3. That is a K&N filter, a common upgrade. Check with K&N on how to clean and lightly oil. Be careful because to much oil could affect the Mass Air Flow sensor
  4. Also check the immobilizer moisture can cause weird problems and it's mounted under the drivers seat.
  5. Cannot help with this, but if yours is an oil coated filter, watch out had one on my Z3M and the oil coated the MAF sensor and had to replace it. Hope fully K&N have solved this problem.
  6. Last year I bought a low mileage 996C4 took it to a local Porsche doctor. Has to car gone over and replace the IMS, rear seal, POV and any rubber parts. He showed me my IMS bearing it was very sloppy side movement and rough feeling rotation.
  7. I know how you feel, I had lost My Z3M, a garbage truck making a left turn ran a red light. His insurance company quit talking to me trying to get my car replaced, total loss. Got an attorney, waiting for things to happen I had my insurance replace the car, they covered the new tires, HID angel eyes, I-Phone interface, sound system, and coil overs. but I couldn't find a mileage replacement for there price. Got a Mazda 3 for my wife, she was working and I was laid up. After the Attorneys got though got my 996! Bucket list number 1. Check your own policy, check with your auto agent, and a Lawyer.
  8. The light bulb behind the clock is burned out, I replaced mine with a clear LED and resistor. or get a new bulb. The service manual shows how to remove it.
  9. I'm a gearhead, and only if I get really stumped will I take it in. For years I would rent tools, then I moved to Texas and lost all my tool contacts, so I started buying. Best idea I ever had! You can never have to many tools, my son and son-in-law will fight over them soon.
  10. Most likely a bad rubber mount look for a rubber mount that has oil on it. That would be there first one to replace, I have replaced all of the front rubber with neoprene type, makes every thing stiffer.
  11. I used the decal with a clear coat over the top of the caliper
  12. I'm no expert on the water cooled engines, But if you do block it off, what for error codes. A lot of newer cars post "65" the emissions control systems will port to outside air to get a reading, If you have a service manual check it for that sensor. Some times emissions codes will pop up with bad gas or a major change in the atmosphere pressure This winter has been a *****!
  13. eons ago I was on 3M,s OPTOCOM traffic control system and we used Infar red to switch the signal lights to green, using the strobe lights on the emergency units
  14. Mount Infar red strobe lights to the front to active the traffic signals to turn them to green. being Infar red no one sees them, Monitor your emergency equipment strobes with a video camera to find the flash rate to active them.
  15. the in line capacitor is in the front dash speakers so that the tweeters will only pass the highs the mid range units do not have a cap. the door speakers are the bass speakers and the rear are midrange only.
  16. The clamshell motor runs but the cable drive doesn't move, I found a repair kit 996 561 673 00 available. does any one know how to take apart the gear drive?
  17. Try checking with the ECU Doctors www.ECUdoctors.com they replaced my alarm cpu for a reasonable price.
  18. Is this a stock Porsche radio or an aftermarket. If an after market you will have to supply voltage to the antenna amp
  19. Watch out my 2001 C4 Cab rolled all of it's windows down during a thunder storm, had to send the alarm CPU to the CPU Doctors for replacement. Why would you mount a CPU on the floor under the drivers seat? I now park it in the garage or put on the hardtop. checked the drains all were open.
  20. I have not opened the key fob but if the switch is a domed metal cup the problem could be air pressure. I have seeing many domed press switches collapse when the air is pushed out of the dome which makes them not reliable the fix is to poke a pen into the plastic covering to release the pressure. so the switched dome can relax.
  21. Only one spark will jump from one electrode, the one that is the closest to the tip as it burns down it will move to the next closest electrode. that's why its a 100K plug
