So,,, I wanted to have another master key for my Cayenne and ordered the key from Sunset Imports.

The parts adviser informed me that it would be more accurate to have the dealer to cut the key via using my existing key than ordering one using the VIN#.

I stopped by my local p-dealer but they informed me other way around, it would work better to order one using the VIN# than cutting it using my existing key.

I'm pretty sure there must be someone out there who has purchase additional master key for their Cayenne, could you please share your experiences?

If the problem concerns only a defective remote part, buy a blank and change the blank metal part with the original one from your old defective remote. Only a reprogram of "ALL" the keys is needed in this case.

The idea is to have an additional master key, that's a brand new remote & cut key.

What costs are involved in having a new key?

I only have one key and would like a spare, but does it mean a costly remofe and programming and recut metal key section by the main dealer?Sounds expensive.....

I had a remote go bad and got new remote and key cut along with programming from P dealership in NJ for $175+tax

I've seen used remotes and new blanks for sale. Is it possible to DIY reprogram a remote? If so, can someone share the process? Thanks

Not unless you a PIWIS tester - each key is program to the alarm system and immobilizers.

Sorry, must be done with a PIWIS.

So with a used key, a newly cut key blade and access to a PIWIS(at a specialist) the new key can be created ?

Sounds the way forward if possible.

The key cut is specific to the door lock cylinder, the ignition switch in contrary, is generic. Here is, the "build in" the remote transponder, which must be programmed to the car by the dealer, involved to unlock the steering wheel and the release of the immobilizer. So you got it approx. half true.

I need some programming help. I have the following:

1) Original second key for my Cayenne with a destroyed fob.

2) A good used fob from another Cayenne, to whcih I have transferred the original cut key.

3) A PST2 computer tool.

4) My car's code # from the dealer

5) One good orginal first key + fob.

Still, I seem unable to program the second fob to this car. I've tried "teaching" just the new key/fob, and I've tried "teaching" both the original first key/fob along with the second key/fob, and whatever I do, the second key/fob still trigggers the immobilizer. The PST2 says "programming key failed" or something to that effect. What am I doing wrong?

that's really cheap. my bloody stealer wanted $550 for that. of course i said no

There are two issues that it appears you still have to deal with in your case:

1. You must remove the transponder pill from your destroyed fob and transfer it to the new "used" remote that you bought.

2. You will only be able to program the new "used" remote that you bought if you also obtained the 24 digit Bar Code number with that used key. The Bar Code usually comes on a little cardboard tag attached to the key or it's on a sticker on the small plastic parts bag that contains the key when it is delivered new. Without that bar code, you will not be able to program the remote.

Thanks, Maurice! Funny, I didn't see that the PST 2 asked me for that 24-digit code for the Cayenne key, like it did when I programmed a brand new key for my 996. Perhaps it asks for it in a later step in the process that I didn't even get to? Or perhaps the Cayenne and the 996 are different in that respect?
