60K service clarification

Recommended Posts

I would've sworn that the 60K service called for replacing the poly-rib belt, but now when I pull in the major and minor maintenance schedules (from this website) it simply says "Poly-rib belt: Check condition".

Can anyone clarify? Are these things good until 90K?

Thanks in advance.

You need to also check the Annual Maintenance and the Additional Maintenance schedules - for additional requirements.

Boxster (986) Maintenance Schedules - Additional Maintenance US (all years)

says "Additional maintenance every 60,000 miles (96,000 km)

Replace Polyrib belt"

Mine was starting to develop cracks at 80,000Kms. I changed it myself in about 30 mins...very easy and cheap DIY.

It's not even 2/3 of a beer job.

Like Phil said, it's cheap and simple to do. Beats having it break while you're driving.

Personally I woul dnot trust any belt over 60,000 mi. Belts are cheap. And they are not easy to access, so don't go in there if you aren't going to change it. I pulled off the firewall cover at 36K (8 yrs) and didn't hesitate to change it although it looked perfect. I would have changed it earlier, but I haven't had the car too long.

It's not like blowing a belt on a typical Amer car and stopping at Autozone and changing it on the road with a few tools.
