Has anyone noticed the dwindling options for the 295-30-18 Rear Tire on our Turbos (and GT3s)? It is getting almost ridiculous that the choice is now PS2, Bridgestone, or P Zero. Hankook made the Ventus V12 Evo in that size then discontinued it with the Evo2. I found some Falken FK453s (which are great tires) but hear they are discontinuing that size. Pilot SuperSport: Nope. Sumitomo Makes the HTR ZIII in our size but is it any good How about the Kumho Ecsta SPT? Not many options, I am interested in others' experiences since it seems ridiculous to hang $2K worth of tires when you can get similar performance for half the price...
I had an unfortunate wintertime run-in with an enormous pothole at (US) interstate highway speeds (2000 Boxster). I dented the left rear rim pretty good and also blew the tire as a result. As soon as this happened, my Coolant Temp light started flashing at a slow speed. I've seen elsewhere the descriptions for the slow flash (i.e low coolant, coolant temp too high, or maybe engine compartment temp too high?). I'm somewhat new to this car (<9 mo. owner), so I'm not sure what I should check next. My coolant level is topped up just like usual. (I had the reservoir changed last fall). I see no leaks. The temp gauge is steady at 180° or so just like normal. Any ideas what I might have damaged when this happened? Is it happening on the left side a clue? I have a Durametric which I will connect when it warms up in a few days. Just curious what I might be up against. Thanks in advance.
In the colder months, I run a set of 225/40-18 front, 265/35-18 back Boxster S rims on my 1999 C2. I purchased them with Kumho Ecsta ASX all-season tires, which are the popular budget all-season Boxster tire option. The rears have worn down to a point where, while I trust them in the dry and light rain, I'm a little skeptical about their traction in heavier rain.
I live in northern Nevada where the weather is mostly dry, but the temperatures get cold, so traction in the 10-70 degree weather range is important. The tires need to be able to occasionally handle moderate wet roads. As far as snow goes, I have a Nissan Xterra which I drive whenever the weather report predicts snow, but there is that rare time where a light dusting may occur while I am working that I will need to drive in. So far, that hasn't happened in my 911, but it did in my previous Boxster. That said, a majority of the miles put on the tires will be in 30-60 degree dry weather, and two major drawbacks that I have experienced in the past from winter tires are significantly reduced traction and tire life.
The front tires still have good traction, and thus the rear tires would be paired with Kumho Ecsta ASXs in the front. I have been happy with the Kumho Ecsta ASXs, but given that tires are significantly cheaper than a potential accident, I'd rather pay more for a better tire as insurance should the better tire be justified.
So, my question is whether to go with a winter tire such as the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60, go with an all-season tire such as the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3, or less likely, stick with the "not broken" Kumho Ecsta ASX? Does anyone have experience with the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60? If so, how is the dry weather performance and tire wear? Does anyone have experience with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3? If so, how do they behave in wet weather and low temperatures? I'm open to other tire options, but would prefer that they be available through TireRack as their distribution center is twenty miles outside of Reno so I can support a local (to me) business, and they even drop tires off to my local independent Porsche shop that doesn't mark their prices up should they mount and balance them.
And, yes, I should have gotten a C4 to begin with, but I love my C2 and I seriously doubt my girl will let me buy another 996 unless it's an automatic cabriolet. :(

Tires: Sumitomo HTR Z III (225/40/18- 285/30/18)
Suspension: H&R Street Performance Coilovers + H&R Sway Bars (front and rear)
Wheels: OZ Ultraleggera
Tire: Hankook Ventus V12
Any thoughts on the new set-up, issues i may have? experiences with the coilovers,wheels, tires?
With the increased wheel width I think the wheels will be flush with the fenders but if not are spacers even an option?- does anyone have this set up? need to roll fenders? pics?

Time to replace my OEM summer tires (2007 C4S, got 32,300 miles out of them)--any recs for what to replace with?
I'm trying to choose between Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or Super Sport. The Super Sports have better ratings on tirerack but the PS2s are OEM. The Super sports are about $500 less than the PS2s for all four tires.
They are both Y rated with similar load capacity.
Anyone try the super sports? I've never been to the track but wouldn't rule this out in the future
