Cab or hardtop

I had a boxster S and now I have a 996 C4S hardtop. I can't believe I miss the convertible top! I'm thinking of selling the C4S and getting a 996 TT, just because. I'm torn on doing a cab or hardtop TT. I feel like the boxster looks better than the 911 as a convertible and the 911 looks more bad a$$ as a hardtop.

I'm also concerned that resale of a cab would have less interest and fetch less money on resale.

Thoughts?

I also moved from a C4S to a TT.  The TT is a much better car in my opinion and worth way more than the differential between it and your C4S. I will get off my TT soap-box now. . .

 

There are a number of considerations you should make if you are deciding between a convertible TT or not.  Do you drive in the winter?  A convertible top is more moving parts and can break.  I personally did not even consider a convertible because I like to track and my home track does not allow convertibles for advanced events.  Convertibles don't make great track cars in my opinion other than maybe all that wind helps keep you cool when you're banging on it on a 95 degree day and sweating like a rockstar.  On the other hand it certainly has its advantages so it probably depends on what you value the most and what your driving situation is.

Completely dependent on what you want....I had an SC cab and a 930 and got rid of both of them for my TT Cab...just nothing better than top down with 400+++HP.

 

The 996TT Cab is excellent...fairly quiet, quite reliable...never needed the hard top.  Very little effect on performance body stiffer all around great.

 

PS...I don't track my car nor do I want to.

Well, I did track the C4S once recently. Lots of fun.... Not sure how often I will do that, but I would imagine I would do it again. I have no interest other than DE events. I don't plan on being a race car driver or putting a 5 point harness in my car someday.

I did see Boxster's there, so it must not be a no convertible rule.

I still can't make up my mind! I also have been hung up on speed yellow. Do I get picky and wait for another Speed Yellow TT, or just buy the best car I find despite the color. Hmmmmmm

I was totally against buying a 911 cab (sold my 993 c4 hardtop) found a 996 Turbo S cab and loving every minute of it, no regret what so ever moving from hardtop to cab, matter of fact if I was going to buy an other car I would by cab.

 

It is all up to you and how do you want to drive it (tracking etc...) it is my daily drive summer car and I would not have it any other way after driving it for few months now.

Buy the Turbo Cab.  Turbos are phenomenal GT Cars and the cabriolet doesn't come with much of a cargo penalty unlike corvettes, R8s, etc.  You want a track car at the price point, get a 996 GT3.  They're still somewhat reasonable.  Being able to put the top down and hear the air sucking into the intercoolers on full boost is great fun and with the wind-barrier installed, will keep the wife's "do" intact for the most part.  996 Turbo Cabriolets were only made in 2004-05 so they are FAR more exclusive than Coupes.  Value in scarcity.  My .02...

When I reached a certain age I decided that an open top car was not for me.  My last open top was a Morgan where elbows are at nasty dog level.  There's a saying (Joan Rivers) that if you need to cover a bald spot buy a Porsche.  I've decided that to cover by bald spot I need a roof, so for me the choice was a coupe with decent air con.  City driving with an open car is no longer any fun, in my view.
