no sound from radio

Loren/anyone: today I turned on my radio ('04 C4S cab factory Bose) and there is no sound. The radio lights up, all buttons produce the usual visual results, but there is zero sound. Is there a fuse which controls sound output, perhaps for the amp? The factory booklet is notoriously inadequate, and there are no detailed listings for all the fuses in the car.

I have searched this forum without success; I hope it is just a small matter of replacing a blown fuse...

Have you tried again lately? Mine decides it's not going to put out any sound about 1 out of every 30 starts.... I read on some old messages that this is not uncommon...

If the buttons light then it is not the fuse. (BTW... there is a full fuses listing in a booklet on the backside of the fuse box cover).

There is a TSB for BOSE problems with PCM2 where they change out the BOSE amp. If you have PCM2 that could be it.

Have You checked the cd-changer, if the power supply to the cd-changer is gone You will not hear anything.

You can also disconnect the fiber cable to the cd-chanfer and check if You have a red light from the contact. If not You have a problem with the fiber cable or PCM

I have found from owning two 2003 Porsches, if you pull the radio out and look at the connector to see if the O/F harness going to the radio is kinked, straighten out and reconnect. I just rerouted the harness so it was going to the radio straighter and zip tied it so and reconnected. Haven't had one problem since then. :thumbup:

I don't have PCM2 or a CD changer. I have had this problem before, but only for a few seconds: if I turned the unit off and on again, it would come back to life--not this time (I gave it 45 minutes). If it still doesn't work this evening, I will try Wardhogs idea of pulling it out and pushing it back in, however, it sounds to me like he might be referring to a dead radio without working display.

When I started my car this afternoon, the radio worked fine. I guess this is one of those gremlins my BMW 745Li is famous for (after 3 years most have been resolved, but there is always another one when you least expect it!)

When I bring my P-car in for its 15K service next month I'll mention the radio problem. The SA thinks I will need a replacement radio, so we will see.

If I shut the radio off and/or car, the problem still exists. If I wait a 30-60 minutes and start the car, problem resolved. This may have something to do with heat but either way this is a gremlin that Porsche should address with Bose. I too will request them to look into it when I bring my car in for its first service.

Me too. And I have seen others post the same thing on other Forums. It's a common problem. Add it to the long list of imperfect traits of this car.

I also have this problem on my 04 c2. I found that when this happens, I turn off the car, remove the key and hit the key fob lock on and then off, and this always resets and starts the radio up again!!

Could be a problem with the security system interface with the bose system or the time delay with the radio.

Had this happen to my 03 cab and it eventually broke and was replaced by the dealer. Then I went out and replaced the whole system anyway.

Bav, it's part of the security system in the car, mine did it so much the dealer ended up replacing the radio. Still does it, not as frequently though.

Has anyone heard of any resolution on this problem? The same thing just happened to me 03 C4S with only factory radio: No Bose, CD changer or PCM. Turning the engine off then locking and unlocking the doors got the radio restarted.

Talk to your dealer - there is a late TSB that talks about BOSE amplifiers needing a software update. The TSB describes primarily PCM2 systems but it might be needed on radio/BOSE systems too.

It's definitely the amp. Had both changed in my cayenne s & C4S.

Just want to chime in as I had this issue and resolved it. might help others.

My cd changer hasn’t worked for a while. And I’ve had battery depleting. Noticed the Cd changer was warm, so I disconnected it. Radio produced no sound after. I got a $6 MOST loop off eBay, connected that in place of the cd changer and now everything works.
