  1. Porsche only sells the whole lens assembly. 996 632 151 00 Lens (for MY99) - retail $14.60
  2. Does it "spring" open? If not then the spring may be backwards or not on the right points. Shouldn't make any noise either.
  3. The only Canadian (only) sticker in the parts list is: 993 701 422 02 airbag sticker about - retail is about $2.56 US
  4. I haven't measured it but it looks pretty tight. The toolbox now sits in the lower part of the trunk so I doubt it will fit. You could never fit a rear tire in the front trunk in a 996 so maybe the air/repair bottle is a good solution.
  5. C2? Well, the suggested way is to remove the wheel carrier and press the bearing out using a hydraulic press. Some (automotive) machine shops will let you bring in the part and they will press it out for you fairly inexpensively. Installation also requires that you heat the new bearing to 100 degrees C (or about 210 F in your oven). If you are careful and mark all of the positions before undoing the bolts you might get away without an alignment. Might be good to have it checked afterwards anyway.
  6. It's just a protective washer. This will all be apparent when you see it ;)
  7. Pretty much, but you will still need to remove the hardware (items 2,3 8,9, 10) on the side panels or it will stick out.
  8. Well, in a pinch I've use a pair of pliers - almost hit me in the face though. A pop rivet tool is available at most hardware stores and doesn't cost much. Racers use them to hold sheet metal in place on race cars and obviously you can use a metal rivet on places that get hot - unlike racers tape (or duct tape).
  9. Here is what Porsche says to do in the Service Manual:
  10. That looks very good - but it would be a lot of effort. If you've got a couple days to do it and some teflon tape and felt tape (anti-squeak) - then go for it.
  11. Are you sure? These are Jeff's pics (of it being done at a dealership).
  12. You will need to remove the console to change the lid (unless you want to try and drill out the pop-rivets and then pop-rivet in the new one). There is a link at the beginning of the post below with the B&M short shifter instructions. These are are very good as they have pics and step by step to remove the console. You just won't be doing the shifter stuff. console/trim post The hinge replacement instruction (for broken hinges) are in TSB 6/99 6848 Oddments Tray Cover (dated 4-14-00). As a contributing member you have access to this TSB.
  13. 997's get different headers, cats and mufflers. I don't know if they will fit a 996 or not. There is not yet a parts breakdown in the part list for 997 - only the complete kit. For a MY04 996 you will want 000 044 200 21. If you want the switch it will need to be ordered separately.
  14. P0102 says your MAF is "open" or shorted to ground. Either the MAF is bad, your connector is bad or a wire to the MAF is broken. P1115 is likely a result of of the bad MAF. Read the MAF thread here Please try to put spaces in your typing so it is easier to read - my old eyes can't take that ;)
  15. They are pretty much just like 996. Most 996's use a 6 mm allen wrench but some use a triple square. For the older GT3 and folks that ordered a rollbar kit Porsche has a kit that covers the mounting holes left behind. 000 044 801 63. It is a kit that normally comes with the Porsche Tequipment Sport Roll Bar to cover up holes after you've removed the seats to install the bar. It includes a couple of nicely made silver painted caps, two large vinyl covered plugs, and a mini version of the pin that secures the center of the seatbacks so that you can reinstall the cap over the center mounting point. Chances are it will work on a 997 too. 997 Rear Seats Assembly
  16. The pinion gear on the Boxster is on the other side (reversed) since the Boxster is a mid-engine car. You would want 1 speed forward and 6 in reverse.
  17. Have a look here and here. The filter is the same as the Boxster, Carrera, GT2, GT3, and TT. Either 996 107 225 52 or 996 107 225 53.
  18. There is a TSB (1/04 6924 Airbag Warning Light Comes On 7-21-2004) for this depending on the year of your car. Both buckles and electrical contacts need to be replaced (with gold contacts). If you have have any dealer goodwill this might be a good time to use it as a tech told me it was about a 2-3 hour job. BTW... the TSB is 12 pages long.
  19. Please post your car model year, PCM1 or PCM2, and what country CDs you are using. That is the best way to get some help here... thanks!
