  2. entire wheel does not need to come off, just the airbag/horn frame. Have you read through the preceding pages of this thread? I think most everything has been covered regarding what you can do. Airbag light will stay on until reset with a durametric device which your dealer or independent mechanic should have. When this happened to me, I sprayed s liberal amount of contact cleaner in both seatbelt and had my mechanic clear the code, has not come back(6 months now I think).
  3. I think I recall seeing an LS1 or LS2 stuffed into a 911 but I do not recall seeing one in a Boxster. While searching there seems to be plenty of people that have contemplating the idea though.

  8. Lots of feedback and suggestions on these and many other tires here, take some time to do a little searching. I have only had experience with the Michelin Pilot Sports and Pilot Sport PS2's on the boxster. Liked them both, but hands down prefer the PS2's. Once again I'll quote another members comment from a previous thread and I agree when he said: :D
  9. well... "cool" is a matter of personal taste. You'll need to look into the after-market for spoilers like that (Techart, Gambella possibly). If you put one of those on you will certainly stand out. ^_^
  10. A leaky water pump is not uncommon, and is often an indication the pump will fail soon. My recommendation would be to replace it. Once you have replaced the pump and have all your hoses back on, you can refill the system via the fill tube located in the trunk next to the oil fill tube. Take a moment to run a search, there is at least one DIY thread here on renntech on the proper procedure for filling and bleeding the cooling system. Good luck!

  12. How many miles on the car? I would say it's not too uncommon for the WP to seize. It was probably beginning to fail, leaked, got into the bearings and ultimately froze. I did not replace mine myself when it needed it, but it looks like a fairly straight forward procedure.
  13. well my limited experience (i.e. no track - only autox) the plus size up front helped reduce some of the understeer. Plus it seems difficult at times to find the 225 in the PS2. I have also heard really great things about the Advans, but if you go that way I would think you should buy them all around and not mix.
  14. I'm no expert, but a guess, your skill level and confidence has increased and now you may simply be carrying too much speed into those turns. Plus those front tires could be heat cycled to death, but if you keep 'pushing" through those corners you'll need a new set in no time! :lol: kabel - who wishes he had your problem, he only autocrosses :P
  15. There are at least three version of the Pilot sport series the Pilot Sport A/S (All Season), Pilot sport, and the Pilot Sport PS2. Either of the last two would suit your needs in my opinion. You can also go plus size on the fronts and have a 225/45/17 put on. Lots of us are now running the 225 on the front, I for one feel the car handles better with that size. As you mentioned there are multiple threads about "which tires are best" it's all very subjective and most based on little back-to-back comparisons. I'm no expert in the field but I have driven on a variety of tires on boxsters and on miatas and I've quoted another member many times before from another thread and I agree with him when he said: :D

  17. Normal. Either in a forward direction or a backward direction, the light turns off when you exceed a specified speed. I'll echo John V in his advise to read your owners manual (assuming you are in possession of one). B)
  18. Autocross is not an easy thing to get right away. Tell your dad not to be too hard on himself! Set up is not so important when first starting out. Learning how to read the course, understanding how the car handles in those situations AND having fun are the priorities. To answer your questions IMO: 1. PSM off 2. Usually 3-5 psi over factory pressures is a good place to start with street tires. One of the main reasons for increasing tire pressures is to prevent the tire from rolling on to the sidwall. 3. Launch briskly, with as little wheel spin, no need to dump the clutch silver arrows' advise regarding chalking the tires and keeping a notebook is spot on. BTW, good job woopn' the old man :lol:
  19. Is there any specific information posted anywhere on what exactly the difference is between an "N" and a non "N" tire. I'm on my second set of PS2's (non- "N"), bought this last set in January from the local Discount Tire. I love em.
  20. Another boxster owner here in town did this to his car, and it is tempting to do, I was really surprised it sounds pretty good. I thought it would be loud but it sounds real sweet under throttle. He just deleted the muffler, everything else is still there.
  21. for me It's more peace of mind, knowing that by keeping it clean it should perform more efficiently. I noticed no change in my temperature gauge after a thorough cleaning of the radiators. But I felt much better about the 'health' of my car.

  23. That is an awesome write-up shawn and I stand corrected. I really thought when I read about how to fix this it was a much more involved and destructive process. I'll be adding this to my DIY list for the Boxster, thanks!
  24. A common problem with our hvac system. I have been thinking the same thing for a year now, "there can't be anymore in there, can there?!" There is a write up here somewhere about where the problem stems from, but iirc it is not an easy task to undertake unless you enjoy disassembling your entire front dash area
