  1. Hello from Montana, I have a Boxster, a 2001 S. It's my third Porsche after 2 911s. It's a great car. I think on these forums one hears all the negatives. Believe me I keep up on it, but I also have the car regularly servied by qualified folks. I drive it as it was designed such as in Autocrosses and DE days, but I don't abuse it. I drive it alot. It's a great car. Oh I said that already (too much MaCallans and Hoyo de Montereys). My 1974 911S in Germany went through every young kid before I got it. It was a maintenance nightmare, albeit a fun one. My 1983 Euro SC was bullet proof. A GREAT car in every sense of the word. I had it for 11 years and miss it. I have no reason to believe this Boxster S will be any different. Just a pleasure to drive. It's theraputic and tax free! Cheers, Dan
  2. I recent question came up where a fellow forum member needs a specific CD for his Porsche navigation system. He replied he had no success in contacting Porsche or Navtech. I called Navteq since I had ordered one from them last year and they gave the answer they no longer supported Porsche and to call the dealer. So I too called the dealer. They can't help either. I was wondering since there isn't any apparent support for the manufacturers could we support each other in this? I have PCM 1 discs number 1 (2001.1) and 2 (2001.1). Disc 1 covers California and Nevada, Disc 2 is WA, OR, ID, UT, MT, AZ, CO, WY, NM. I made a copy of mine and use it in the car and keep the original on my book case. I realize there are better, and more current options available like Tom Tom, Garmin, etc, but without the Nav disc the system is useless. I would be willing to provide a copy at no charge should anyone need one. Unless Porsche gets onboard in helping its customers what does one do? Ideas?
  3. Funny thing is I couldn't figure out how to make it look like a dot matrix! I tried! It turned out good think. Cheers, Dan
  4. My 2001 Boxster S I purchased last year only had Disc 1 (California and Nevada). I called NavTeq and was able to purchase Disc 2 for the Northwest and Mountain States. That was last July. I could have purchased the entire USA (actually a better deal) but I didn't see the need. They told me the updates were no longer being done. Honestly a Tom Tom or Garmin is better, but that doesn't make the Nav system in the car work! The disc cost $149.00. I got it, copied it, and use the copy in the car and keep the original on the book case. Works perfectly. Try this is case it is different than what you had: "If you have any questions please call us Toll-Free at 888-628-6277 or e-mail us at NABC_English@navteq.com This is an outbound message only - you cannot reply to it. Please call our customer call center at 888-NAV-MAPS (888-628-6277) if there is anything else we can help you with." Also, its NAVTEQ, not navtech just to make certain you end up in the correct spot. Cheers and keep me posted, Dan
  5. I basically made a copy of the option sticker in the front trunk. I experimented with font, (I think I ended up using Franklin Gothic Medium Condensed) etc and then prinited on a white mailing label. It turned out great.
  6. Get the complete set including the one for your radio version from Sunset. They are the BEST! Then if you know the original selling dealer (I found this out via a carfax) call them and tell the service folks that you want to get a service history for your VIN at their dealership. I sent them the new service maintenance book, a copy of my registration and drivers license and asked them if they could put the proper stamps in the service book for when it was sold, and for the various maintenance work, etc. In my case it was Carlsen Porsche. It took a few weeks to get back, but they were very helpful in helping me complete a history for my vehicle. When I bought the car it came with everything, less the service book. The service book has original owner info in it so I think the selling dealer kept it. I also recreated the option sticker in the service booklet, based on the one in the truck. Looks perfect! I'm kind of anal about wanting it as it was. Cheers.
  7. Here are a couple of things you can do yourself. 1. Get a Carfax, That should list the original selling dealer when new, or at least the location. They sometimes, not always, will say when the car was serviced and what was done. You can figure it out from there. Buy a new service - maintenance book at Porsche and ask the dealer to redocument any services they have for that VIN. They should be able to tell you if other dealers took care of the Vehicle. They won't give you previous names for good reason, but it will help fill in the details. If the non warranty services were non outside of Porsche, your'e out of luck there. 2. You can also get for a fee a Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA. This will list all options, color, engine number etc.
  8. I personally would go with the factory option. It will insure the best fit. An example is: Part: 955-044-002-66 Name 05+ 911 Bike carrier Description Lockable carrier for standard adult bikes, up to a maximum frame tude diameter of 3 3/8 inches. Three carriers can be mounted on a single roof transport system. List Price $142.00
  9. My sister had a problem with her BMW that the garage door was too old for the Homelink to function. Just a thought.
  10. You can also order a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche. Costs about a 100 bucks, but its a nice addition. It'll tell you everything you need to know.
  11. Welcome! Ditto Join PCA and have some fun. Post some photos of your new wheels.
  12. I remember those days! I could only get 135 out of my 74 911. Passing an east German Trabant with almost a 80 mph of relative motion was a bit of a white knuckle experience.
  13. That would be too good to be true. I learned along time ago about resting my foot on the clutch. I burnt up 3 of them in my 77 Triumph Spitfire when I was a teenager. The dealer hated me because they kept failing under warranty. I didn't know any better. Thanks for the input. Dan
  14. I know this is a subjective question with lots of variables, but none the less I am curious what the life span of a clutch is when driven during "normal" conditions. Normal to me is civil driving around town (no jackrabbit starts, not alot of stop & go freeway stuff) and some PCA autocrosses. I currently have 57K miles and am looking to do the 60K service this spring. Just curious if I should start putting money in the future maintenance jar. Thanks, Dan
  15. I used to have a mid engine Lancia. When you changed the coolant there was a bleed vent/screw at the top furthest point in the front radiator to make this process easy. Does the Boxster have a similar way of doing it? I'm not find changing the coolant in my manual (Sure it's there) Dan
  16. Mike is correct, 3 major parts are 8/80. None the less good to know info.
  17. Put this in the nice to know info. My wife just took her 2002 Honda in because it wouldn't drive forward (Thank god it wasn't the Porsche or my Land Rover or I'd never heard the end of it, but thats another story!). Long story short Honda engineers confirmed to the dealer it was a bad Power Contol Module or PCM. Well it gets fixed and the service rep says it'll be $700.00 and change. Having read some obscure blurb about the PCM being part of emissions and reading the Federal Emissions Warranty. I asked the stupid question if it was covered. He said "Hum, don't know". Wife goes to pick up the car and viola! no charge. So moral of the story is go to this web page and read this once through to put into your memory. It covers a myriad of gizmos that I am certain get replaced and charged to the consumer who has no knowledge it was covered. The federal warranty is 8 years or 80K miles. Cheers and Happy Porsche driving. http://www.epa.gov/oms/consumer/warr95fs.txt Dan
  18. Once warmed up, I drive around town at 4K. From there you give it any gas at all and it takes off! A sweet spot.
  19. Just as a follow up. Adrian in Switzerland sent me a scan of the "Wappen". Here it is for posterity!
  20. Being a former 911 driver, the Boxster is diffentaly a much smaller car. I miss the extra behind the seats room and over all larger feel. But as mentioned earlier the BMW and Boxster are really apples and oranges as a comparison.
  21. Wow. I had no idea. I was a member when I had my first Porsche there in Germany. It was a 1974 911. Great memories. Thanks for the link to the post. Dan
  22. My first PCA region was in Germany. I guess they are now defunct. Does anyone have a copy of the Regions logo they could post for me?
