My Cayenne S 2008 won't start. I turn the ignition key and all I see is the Porsche (red) logo turn on and the mileage counter light turn on. Steering is locked, the head unit works and I can hear audio. Normally I would hear a click and then all the indicator lights would on and I would hear the soft beeps but now I don't hear anything. There is no steering / ignition faulty codes showing up on the dashboard. Has anyone experienced this? Appreciate the help.
Hi all I’ve been fighting with the cayenne again let’s me put the key in and turn it then I get steering fault as attached any ideas of a way around this or a reset thanks car won’t start
My 2004 Cayenne started missing. This happened pretty much after I put some fuel in it that may have been bad. I tried using fuel treatment, gas dry, etc but it still kept missing. Finally the CEL went on, code reader pulls cylinder misfire on 2,3 and 5 since the car has 107k on it and has never had coils or plugs I figured it was time since I know that is a common cause if misfire. when I did the job I discovered that the coils were covered in a oily slime as well as the spark plugs. Only two cylinders were basically clean. The plug threads were covered in this crap too please pics. I'm assuming this is not normal but is it simply from having bad/cracked coils or is more going on? Spark plug gaskets come to mind. im a decent amateur work on many of my vehicles, so any leads would be appreciated regards roger
2006 CS Ti. Approx 130,000 miles Recently the CEL came on. My OBDII reader showed misfire for all cylinders (this was on a cold start, so not warmed up yet). Previously it had shown misfire in the ready list so I figured this has been intermittent for a while although the car has been driving fine. No issues with power, hesitation, fuel mileage, etc. So, I went ahead and ordered the coils and plugs and changed them today. Every coil looks perfect. No signs of cracking anywhere. The plugs also looked absolutely fine. What I'm figuring (hoping?) at this point is the coils themselves are failing. See the link for pics. The service history I have shows these were changed at 102,000 miles with the 002 part. The coils I installed are 012. Not sure this is going to make any difference but time will tell. See coils and plugs here.
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen I just bought a 99 Boxster with 82,000 miles on it (Manual) Sometimes after I have been out driving I park my car and when I get back in it it will not crank. I do hear the solenoid at the starter kick when I turn the key but no luck. The engine will not turn. Then the next several hours I go and turn the key and "Holy Moley" it starts right up and will continue to start for several days then it will just die again. So far have changed battery and starter and checked all ground and positive wires and all good . HELP ME PLEASE!
dinicor posted a topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)Doing the plugs and coils on my 2001. I know this has been asked before, but the info I have found is inconsistent. I've popped just the plugs in so far and put some anti-seize. Should I pull them and take it off. I've read mixed reviews on this. I also ordered new ignition coils. Do the coil tubes come pre-lubed with grease? If not, should I add some? Thanks
yasinkk posted a topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)Hi everyone, I've got an 01 C2 (my02) and I'm now having trouble removing the key from the barrel. After quite vigorous jiggling I'm able to remove it but the park light stays on as the barrel does not pop out to off position. I have tried some WD40 but to no avail. Also, when the key is being moved to the on position it seems to get there in one movement rather than clicking into the various position/s before ignition and start. The only way I have managed to bring the barrel to off position was by tapping quite hard onto the sides of the barrel once I had the key removed. What could be the cause of this problem? Your comments would be highly appreciated!
Found another issue I'm trying to sort out. My Cayenne is optioned with Entry & Drive, however when I purchased the vehicle a few weeks ago the former owner did not have the dummy plastic Entry and Drive key. I ordered a new key and it came in the other day. The remotes are both working correctly, the vehicle is locking and unlocking like it should, all door buttons work on the outside. The problem appears to be the ignition cylinder. When the plastic E&D key is put into the lock, it goes in OK all the way, but has very hard resistance turning one position to the right although it does go. It will not turn to the start position to start the vehicle. From center it will turn to the left with no problem and then back to center OK. I've also noted the key can be removed in the "on" position where it would normally not be able to. Both flip keys work the cylinder flawlessly in all positions. Am I doing something wrong here or could I just have a faulty cylinder? My first thought was can the cylinder be lubed and if so what would be the correct lubricant to use? Don't want to shoot it with something that will zorch the lock & then be towed to the kindly dealer. I'm sure the plastic key is fine, it was a new Porsche part in the bag. Thanks Eric
I've had my Cayenne diesel for about 1 month and have about 1300 miles on it. Two weeks ago, when starting early in the morning (temp in the low 40's), I turned the ignition to "on" position, wait for "coil/glow plug light" to turn off with foot on brake, and turn key to start - nothing. It won't turn over. Then turn key back to "on" position and try to start again. Still nothing. Next, I remove key and try again - this time it starts. Now, every morning the 1st cold start attempt is the same - it won't turn over. Then, when I remove key and try again, it starts every time. I hooked my durametric diagnostic tool to it last night and there were no fault codes. Anyone had same or similar problem?
I am experiencing a starter delay with my 2003 Boxster S 6 speed. Key turns normally from O through start. Emergency brake is on, clutch is depressed, and shifter is in neutral. Battery is new. All my idiot lights come on. Sometimes it will start immediately as normal. Other times have to turn key to off position then try again. Sometimes have to hold switch in start postion 10-15 seconds. Car will always start but sometimes takes as many as 5 trys. I have replaced the electical portion of the ignition switch and continue to have the same problem. Any ideas
Please help, After thoroughly searching for someone who has had this issue, I am still lost. Vehicle is a 2000 Boxster 2.7, 5 speed manual. Vehicle has factory Becker radio with tape deck. CDR 220 I believe. I have replaced the ignition switch as recommended for similar problems, but there were no changes First, the vehicle will sometimes not crank when turned to the starter position. It takes multiple turns and sometimes even locking and unlocking the vehicle before it will start (acts like clutch is not depressed when trying to start). It seems to be happening more often and I am afraid it may not work at all in the near future. It is not the battery. Electrical connections to battery are good. I thought possibly the clutch switch but it does not seem to have any effect on it from what I can tell. All fuses look good. Radio fuse in footwell fuse box was blown but I replaced it. Secondly, the Radio does not turn off or on when key is turn to ON position. This happens 100% of the time. The radio can be turned on with the On button in the same way that it can be with no key in the switch. It has to be manually turned off or else it will play continuously. Even if the vehicle is locked. The red LED flashes when the unit is off and the vehicle is running. More pertinent information, All of this started happening after I removed the factory head unit temporarily. I have read different things online as what to do with the brown/blue wire that senses the radio in the dash. Some people say ground it out, others say to tape it off (no ground?). I cannot tell if it makes it act differently if it is grounded, but I may not be getting a good ground (short wire in dash)... Wire cannot be reconnected as originally was. Horn honks once after locking (I figure this is because of the radio security wire) and dash led blinks twice in rapid succession continuously. What should I do with this wire? Why would this affect the ON and OFF of the radio when the ignition switch is turned? Is this linked to the starting issue? I think it may have done the starting problems a couple times before removing the head unit, but I am not positive. It has definitely gotten substantially worse since about the exact same time though. I have already replaced the ignition switch. Also, can I disable the clutch switch entirely or will that not allow the cruise control system to function? Please help!!! Thank you all. The boxster community is amazing!
