Tank pressure sensor install? P0452 issue

Okay, after clearing the P0452 CEL multiple times I finally purschased the tank pressure sensor to fix this. However, I have no clue how to install it... Does anyone have any information on where this sensor is located and how to get to it? I believe the dealer said it was on top of the gas tank next to the sending unit. Is that under the battery tray? Thanks,

Okay, don't shoot me... but this is the same drawing I got from Porsche when I picked up the part... but it does not really show me where the sensor is in relation to the car itself. They thought it might be in the area of the battery but their techs have not done a replacement of this part before so they could not verify. Is there any better picture or service procedure that shows the replacement process better? Sorry to be such a nitpicker on this... ;) :renntech:

Okay, but it appears the sensor is more towards the gas tank than the evap canister or fuel filler... that is why I think it may be near the battery tray area. Hmm... you would figure Porsche would know how to install their own sensor! ;)

Is there anything in the service manual about this sensor?

Pull off the wheelwell liner on the front right and you'll see the evap cannister beneath the gas filler tube.

You are da man!!! I guess Porsche was wrong, its behind the wheel liner. Will check it tonight and hopefully replace the darn thing! Thanks again! :renntech:

No sensor there - but I have a 1997 and I don't think 1997 had this sensor.

But if the part you need to replace is #5 in the diagram I do not think it would not be under the battery tray.

Hello guys,

As I remember the tank pressure sensor is on top of the fuel tank to the drivers side, that would be right of the fuel pump.

Now you gotta have small hands cause its a buger to replace. Now you might find that the wire harness going to it is chewed up by rats. This was always the case. So it might not be the sensor after all. as for the diagram, its not always truthful. Being that you say the light returns tells me its a wiring problem.

TO REBORN996 ....     First and foremost be very careful not to snap the white plastic connector on the 10-0-clock position of smaller white circle. On mine which is a 99 996 Carrera at the 10-0-clock position you see the black tube leaving the small white round thing? Feel along that line under the lip towards the steering wheel. About 2 or 3 inch in you should feel something like an electric plug . Pull that towards you so you can see it. Go gentle or you will snap the white connector on the side of the white circle. You are now looking at the tank pressure sensor. A single phillips head screw holds the sensor. Undo that and pull the sensor which has a rubber grommet around  it, free from its holder and exchange. Good luck.

I have the P0452 CEL message on my 1999 C2 and replaced the tank pressure sensor.  The sensor is located where Tool Pants pointed ... under the battery tray.  It is a straight forward replacement.  I swapped it out within 1/2 hr.  The problem is it didn't fix the CEL problem and I'm stumped what else could be the problem.  Any suggestions on what else could be causing the error? The car still drives beautifully, no hesitation, whatsoever ...
