Motor oil

Thommy

Recommended Posts

I have just received my 911sc imported from USA, wondering what engine oil to use, any recommendations ?

Thomas living in Norway

I've used 20-50 regular oil in my sc for years, and wouldn't use any oil higher than that. I have 15-50 synthetic in my C4s and that might be better in a colder climate for your sc. good luck, enjoy the car.

Yes, 5W-50 is approved for all Porsches (except Cayenne V6) from model year 1984 through present.

Yes, and it is the ONLY Porsche approved 5W50....last I read in Panomara.

Yes, Mobil 1 5W-50 is the only 5W-50 on the 11 page March 2008 Approved Oils List.

What is approved for 1983 911SC ? I live in Virginia.

All of Porsche's approved oils lists start with "As of model year 1984".

For my air cooled cars I always ran straight 40W in the summer and 5W-30 in the winter.

Thanks for the info! Do you recommend a brand of 40w? can it be 10w-40? synthetic? synthetic blend?

HI, DO NOT use fully synthetic oils in cars up to 993, because these oils are damaging the oil pump. It's true.

We use SHELL SUPER HELIX in 964's and 911(T)1973-we will use this one too when the car will be ready.

DO NOT use CASTROL in PORSCHE.

IN new models we put MOBIL 1
