Airbag light SOLVED w / Durametric

As mentioned before I had an airbag failure warning light last week.

I took the advice of Loren and others and ordered a Durametric kit.

I bought the enthusiast kit and it arrived in 2 business days!!!! Awesome.

I plugged it into the car and it showed the exact fault: CODE 46 - Seat Buckle.

I cleared the code and went to town with an electrical contact cleaner.

I am hoping this will solve it temporarily for now.

I SAVED $275 that the dealer was going to charge me today!

So it paid for itself instantly AND I could sleep soundly knowing I didn't have something more serious...

I played with other settings. It is awesome.

If it comes back, before you spend more $$ for parts, take a look at the TSB on the issue. It will guide you on improving the ground points and connectors/wire gauge size under the seat.

Improving the grounds may solve the issue permanently.

Where all did you clean with the electrical contact cleaner?

I bought a '99 996 a couple of weeks ago with the airbag failure light on. During the inspection the shop told me it was the CODE 46 - Seat Buckle so, I tried the contact cleaning with DeoxIT D5 as suggested elsewhere in these forums. The shop, though dubious, reset the code. I haven't seen the airbag light stay on since. I sprayed inside the rim of the belt buckle to try and get all the electrical contacts as well as in the harness under the seat and around the ground wire connection. I did the passanger seat too for good measure.

How often will this need to be done to keep the contacts clean? I suppose I'll be ordering the Durametric before too long. Where is the TSB on the issue?

Depending on where you live you may have to clean them yearly (cold/wet climates). If you live where it is mostly dry then it could be 3-4 years.

I'm already out of the geek closet. Switched to IS/IT work years ago, forgoing a reputation I spent all my college years building. Oh well. Got the Durametric in this week and started playing on Thanksgiving. Pretty easy stuff, though I have codes P1123 and P1125 and for some reason the Durametric does not have the text for code P1123, had to come here to get that. Regarding the air bag light - confirmed that I have the same issue as this thread, I have BOTH the 45 and 48 codes for the seat belts. Looks like I have some cleaning to do...
