Park Assist Retrofit Question

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if it is possible to retrofit park assist? My car got scraped while parked recently and is getting the rear bumper cover replaced and I figured now is the time if it is possible. Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

I've retrofitted quite a few options to my own car. The biggest stumbling block is usually the plugs on the end of the wiring. You can buy the sensors and the control unit , but these will have moulded sockets to accept specific plugs. You need to do some research on alternative suppliers for the correct plugs ( VW/ Audi as a start) as in most cases its not possible to simply buy a retro fit mini loom with all the plugs attached. My first suggestion is check the obvious with your local porsche dealer that a tequipment parking kit isnt available. If it isnt , then find out the option code for parking sensors and do a search for all parts in PET (porsche parts catalogue) matching that option code, this gives a kit of parts to buy. Next you will need a wiring diagram and someone with some mechanical and electrical skill to fit the parts , cables and wires. The final part is getting the workshop tool connected (not duarametric) and having the parking option enabled.

I am in the process of gathering all the bits I need to retrofit parking sensors on my Gen 1 997

So far I have managed to get:

Parking sensors x4 P/N: 955.606.275.01

Parking sensors' loom P/N 997.612.661.00

Control unit P/N 996.618.171.03

Sensor mounts x4: No part number

I now need to source the connectors for the Control unit - if I understand correctly, these would need to be cut from a loom in a car already with parking sensors.

Does anyone have any idea what the part numbers might be for the connectors to the control unit? Or perhaps where I can source the connectors from, I am guessing this is Audi/VW, but without part numbers for the connectors to the control unit, this will be impossible to trace?

Thanks

These are pictures of the control unit. I am just after the part number of the connector/loom that plug into this unit. The control unit is located under the passenger seat, if anyone with park assist, and doesn't mind having a look. I believe it should be a VW/Audi part number. Thanks

Alright, first post here and hoping for some help. My 02 C4S reverse sensor system is not working. Not even making the alternative beeping sounds which warn about malfunction. I took it into the Porsche service center and they were of little help, and gave me a 2-40 hour diagnostics window. Basically what is happening is when the auto trans is engaged into reverse there is no initial beep, nor is there any detection of anything behind the car where the sensors would normally detect obstructions. At the service center they removed and unclipped both the rear light units and the system works fine. They told me that the entire light assembly is working fine and all light bulbs are good. What is going on? Thanks

I would be looking at earths. First check the reversing lights are working. I assume you do not have anything unusual in the lights such as LED bulbs or such? If the reversing lights work, confirm all earths to the light cluster are good. In many cases a light may work by earthing itself through another one, not necessarily through its proper earth. You no doubt have followed a car where they indicate and the brake lights/side lights dim in time with the indicator flashing - bad earths. That's my guess anyway.

I am struggling to work out where the OG/BU (Orange/Blue) wire from the Park Assist Control unit runs to. The wire runs from the B3 Pin which is labelled "Diagnosis" in the park assist control unit to something called "SP035_SPK_STRICH". It joins at this point and goes onto the "Diagnosis Plug Socket" (the A3 Pin which is labelled k-lead). I believe the wire needs to be connected to the PCM but not sure. Has anyone any idea?

Attached is the wiring diagram for this area. Apologies but the picture is not clear at all, it is on Sheet 7 CU Gateway of a 997.1 Wiring PDF.

I thought the Diagnostic socket was where you plug in a Durametric lead (just under the glove box, passenger side RHD model), it didn't feel right, but we tried to splice it into a Orange/Blue wire coming out of the back of the "Diagnostic socket" and managed to lose the instrument cluster (went completely dead), we had to remove that connection, and the cluster came back on.

Am I completely in the wrong place?

Haven't yet had a chance to look into the wire that needs to go to the CU Gateway.

Can anyone confirm if Park Assist can be activated using Durametric or must it be PIWIS? My specialist has Durametric, not PIWIS. Also need to activate a Cruise Control retrofit, so same question?

Thanks

I do not think Durametic can activate it - but if you have access to one do that first. Otherwise you will need a PIWIS.

Some options may require additional parts added first - and some options require an approval code from Porsche AG (even dealers/OPCs must show proof of payment to Porsche AG before activating some options).
