Here's a question for you DIY types.

Does anyone sell a floor jack pad with a pin to engage the hole on the 996 jack points? I thought I had found one at Pelican, but the diameter is huge (6.25 inches)--must be for a commercial lift.

Thanks Loren and carrera. I hate to admit, but I had a rather "unfortunate incident" recently using only the rubber pad on my jack. My mistake, of course, but do not want to repeat. (On the plus side damage was only about $300 for a trim piece and labor--could have been WAY worse.)

Search eBay for "porsche aluminum floor jack adapter". I bought one of these from seller delubozparts several years ago, and while not inexpensive, are definitely high quality and work very well. The web site for the guy who makes these is http://www.imagineering-web.com/ and his email address to contact him is mark@imagineering-web.com I couldn't find the jack pad on his web site, but it's definitely on eBay. I wrote a review of it a long time ago on RennTech, but can't find where the reviews moved to. I found a picture of the jack pad adapter in one of my old posts

Search eBay for "porsche aluminum floor jack adapter". I bought one of these from seller delubozparts several years ago, and while not inexpensive, are definitely high quality and work very well. Is the diameter of yours 4"? Just need to find an appropriate floor jack (mine has a smaller diameter pad)

If you have aerokit sideskirts you won't be able to use that one without damaging them. It is too wide.

The guy who makes these sent me a JPEG of the engineering drawing, and it is 4.19" diameter. It fits into the cup of my Harbor Freight floor jack perfectly, and I suspect it will work with many other floor jacks as well. It costs more than a hockey puck, but feels to me like it's more secure when the car is jacked up. If you have sideskirts, listen to Loren

I bought an interchangeable pad that goes on my floor jack from ebay make specifically for the 996/986. It has a Teflon pad to protect the car during jacking. The pin is machined to fit exactly into the hole in the cars jack pad. Machined from a solid blank of high quality steel and then powder coated. Highly recommended.

Thanks Golden, this looks super too. Perhaps I should buy the pad first then go looking at jacks! I went out yesterday, and none of the ones I looked at had a 4" diameter pad (for Geoff's option) and at least my low profile aluminum jack does not have a removable pad for the nice option you have. But thanks all for the replies!
