Fault code 4460 -- Pressure sensor

Possible cause of fault

- Short circuit to ground/voltage or open circuit in circuit to control module terminals 25, 26 and 42

- Plug connection on stop light switch faulty

- Adjustment of the stop light switch not OK

- Wiring/ plug connection faulty

- Pressure sensor faulty (replace hydraulic unit)

I've followed the troubleshooting guide for the pressure sensor connector and found pin 3 on the wiring harness connector, which should read 0v, shows 5v. This indicates a short some where in the wiring. My Porsche dealer said the ABS/PSM hydraulic unit is bad although the fault is in the wiring harness. This seems inconsistent with the fault in the connector. Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot this further.

I need to correct this. At step 4 of the attached, I get 5v from pin 2. I need help with my next step.

Short circuit to voltage between pin 2 of booster pump pressure sensor plug and PSM control module plug pin 26 → End.

If you can not find a wiring connector issue then you will likely need to replace the hydraulic unit.

Thanks - how can I find which hydraulic units will fit mycar. I have a 2000 C4 (Millenium Edition) with a hydraulic unit part number of 996.355.755.47

Dealer says 996.355.755.61 is the replacement but also will need a new sensor and mounting brackets. I am consider a used part to avoid the several thousand dollar repair at the dealer There are plenty on ebay and only a few for C4

You could use -47, or -53, or -55, or -61.

All will still require Durametric or Porsche PST2 or PIWIS tester for specialized bleeding of the new (or used) unit.

Ok - I've reviewed the tutorial by KS- CS as http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/electronics/p384-durametric-tutorial-part-2-3a-advanced-functions.html and the procedure requires the Durametrics version 2 cable. I've got version 1 purchased in 2006, so I will upgrade when I find the proper hydrolyic unit. I use a Motive pressure bleeder so I should be in good shape. Thanks for your help.

I have this same code, I have changed and checked the brake pedal switch several times. Finally gave up and took it to a local specialist who told me it is the pressure sensor or switch on the ABS controller. He told me he has replaced the sensor a couple of times in the past, but is now unable to locate the part number. Is there such a part, or do I need to replace the whole PSM ABS unit? If so, what is the correct part number for a 2001 C2?

Hi Loren

i am facing the same issue with fault code 4460. Carried out all tests and even sent the pump for repair where they found a faulty circuit board and the pressure sensor. Replaced brake light switch, MAF sensor, Steering angle sensor. I replaced these components because i wasn't getting any values from them with the tester. Now with the pump repair i get the readings from these sensors but on the test drive the fault comes up again, 4460 Pressure sensor. BUT when i test drive the car and i accelerate very gently the fault doesn't come up. As soon as i accelerate above 3k rpm the light pops up. Any ideas?

The root cause of mine was the brake light switch. It took a long time to identify this as I got 2 bad new replacement switches. The 3rd replacement switch fixed the issue.

I also ended up replacing the switch on the ABS unit and a few other parts before identifying it to be a succession of bad switches.
