Hi all,

 

My 957 2008 Cayenne S 4.8L V8 was having issues starting when the engine was hot, I tracked this down to a faulty crankshaft position sensor mainly due to my scan tool showing the `P0335 Crankshaft position sensor 'A' circuit` code.

 

I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and all seemed well, it started right up (the engine was cold so this was expected). I went for a drive and everything seemed normal as well. Until I had been driving on the highway for about 15 minutes at 70-80 mph, the engine cut off (or stalled, not sure). The check engine light came on and I was forced to stop on the side of the highway. I was able to start it up after a longer then usual crank and limp home on side-roads. Throughout this drive the engine didn't stall or act differently in any way (although I didn't dare to push it past 2k RPM).

 

When I got home I pulled the codes and these were present:

  • P0335 Crankshaft position sensor A circuit
  • P1026 fuel high pressure implausible
  • P2414 oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic convert bank 1 - in air
  • P2415 oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic convert bank 2 - in air
  • P1023 fuel high pressure too low during starting

 

After clearing the codes, and restarting the engine the codes came right back.

I checked the crankshaft position sensor connector, and it is seated correctly, I didn't mess with the high pressure fuel pump, or the oxygen sensors, so I'm kind of stumped.

 

Is the sensor I just installed a faulty one (despite it being an OE Bosh sensor from FCP Euro: Bosch 0261210292) or is there more to it?

With the previous Crankshaft Position Sensor, I've seen the P0335 code several times but never any of the other codes.

 

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I have an update: I started the car while the engine was cold, and it didn't throw a single code. 

This is eerily similar to the behavior I was having before replacing the crankshaft position sensor.

If I'm reading this correctly it leads me to believe the new crankshaft position sensor came with a same/similar issue to the old one, or there is some issue with the wiring harness or DME that only presents itself with heat?

 

Will probably order another CPS to rule out the former, if the issue persists after installing it's almost guaranteed to be something upstream from the sensor (which sounds like a bad time).

Your problem may not be the sensor itself; P0335 means the DME is not receiving a viable signal from the sensor, which can also be caused by a wiring harness problem between the sensor and the DME.
