"Manuel" appears in fan speed window

Greetings and thanks to all for helping me get happy with my new to me 02 c4 cab, seal grey, PSE, Bose, 15,000 miles. The tip on by-passing the pse 30-45 cutout alone was worth the price of admission. And thanks to Eric for the bumper plugs and clear side markers. And yes, denat. alcohol eventually gets rid of the visior warnings. This is a great forum; on topic and no bs. Hope to spend a long time here. And btw the car is awsome fun to drive.

Car is out of warranty in 2 weeks, so I am trying to get all OK before then. Dealer has (or is) replacing RMS, coolant tank, squeaky clutch pedal, squeaky steering wheel (air bag contact).

BUT: if a/c off, not set to "auto", "MANUEL" appears in fan speed window. I assume this means "manual" in english. Dealer says this is normal and the way it is, period. Tech did full system resetto no avail. Is this true and the way it is supposed to be? Car is US spec and was sold new in Denver. A/c sytstem works fine. Not a big deal, but it justs looks odd. Any help appreciated as it is much cheaper to fix now vs. later.

And yeah, my signature is lacking. Haven't had time to set it up.....too busy reading great info on the forum and getting car set up like it oughta be.

I think you'll find this is normal - every one I have seen has been the same.

Yes, that is normal. If you turn the fan down (using the minus button) where no bars show it actually says "oFF".

Normal. It's either automatic or manual. Your choice. If it's not one it's the other.

There was an option where you could program your own name into the display. I suspect some Spanish guy owned the car before you. :clapping:

I have a German friend and when he was in California we went for a ride in my Box. Manuell is not a German word. In fact, he thought it was the English word for manual.

It has something to do with that Audi a/c display that ended up being used by Porsche.

Yes it is and its translation is...manual...which means it is not in automatic mode any more (I'm the master of the obvious).

An I can say with authority that Manuel, the Spanish name, does not have 2 "L"s, only one. So the first theory is wrong.

Truth be known, and now that I re-read it thru non-beer soaked eyes, it does say "manuell". From what I read, it means "not in automatic", and also compressor is not running, therefore more hp at wheels. Good setting. The mfg. did, however, manage to print all 4 visor warnings in english.

Thanks for the help. Last warranty trip b4 expiration. Clutch still squeaky despite new "spring kit". Dealer did fix rattle in left front of dash area. Turns out 2 pins broken in conv. roof latch. Hope I gott'er debugged b4 it's on my dime!

You are correct that "manuell" means "not in automatic".

It is not accurate to say it also means "compressor is not running". While the compressor IS always running in Automatic .... the converse is not true. It is not always Off in Manuell.

When climate control is in Manuell, the compressor will run anytime the compressor button is pushed. The difference between this mode and "automatic" is that the driver gets to select fan speed, where as Automatic will select fan speed based upon the difference between ambient and selected temperature ... as the computer strives to achieve the selected temp.

My primary reason for rarely running in Automatic is that the fan will come on full blast whenever the car is started during warm weather. Top fan speed is very noisy, and rarely necessary, even here in the Georgia summer.

Does anyone else find it astounding that NOWHERE in the owner's manual does it mention the "MANUELL" display?  In fact, on page 89 of the manual, it specifically says the display will indicate "Manual" when blower speed is adjusted.  Silly me for reading the manual.
