Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Fingers crossed im just in the process of buying a 1999 boxtser S and after some advice.

First, should I be concered of 70,000 miles?

Second, what do you advise to have a good look at and check when picking it up?

many thanks for any help guys

you may want to double check the car's model, the S started in model year 2000

I would recommend that you have a Porsche Dealer check it out. They know the potential problem areas with this car and could advise you of any issues. I would buy a warrenty or at least check into it as a major engine problem could be up to $10k plus if you had to cover it yourself.

Hi Guys,

Just done 2 HPI checks and its definately a Boxster S, registared September 1999.

Regrading the service, it has infact done 73,000 miles and has just had its 72,000 miles major service, so Im hoping to be clear of service charges for the time being. But can I listen out for any noises that might point to things on the way out.

The car has had,

72K Major Service

Full Main Dealer History

2 New rear tyres

New discs and pads within the last year

New clutch.

New Trailing arms and bushes

Cheers for any help again

Many thanks

Russ

Sounds fine.

Check the coolant tank/hoses for any sign of leakage...i got hit by one of those, they are very common.

Looks like Manufactuer Year 2000 but purchase in 99.

Have fun!

I have a 99 and it was manufactured in 98. :-)

Recently purchased 99 Boxster, with advice from import mechanic friends. They say Porsche engines are pretty much bulletproof as long as they are maintaned properly. Other exotics such as Lamborghini and Ferrari are all fine and good, from what I'm told, but are true exotics in the sense that they are'nt really daily drivers and a major pain in the *** to maintain. Plus they tend to cost a fortune. My Porsche is a great drive, very responsive and great in corners, plus incredible braking abilities. Dollar for dollar, Boxsters are a much better deal than the high end Italians taken out on weekends and babied. They look fantastic but for normal working folk, Porsche is the way to go. Good luck. Plus you can actually perform maintenance on your Porsche with just mostly basic metric tools and quality replacement parts. Changed out my serpentine belt and oil and filter in about an hour.
