  1. right hand drive reverses with the key... very utilitarian I suppose. typically Porsche.
  2. no lights? are you sure that a bad alternator is draining out the battery? fuses? relays? voltage regulation? run the codes, assuming you have power at the switch. get in to a good indy, and good luck...
  3. awesome. I'd go with the aerokit in front. take a look at Ben Choi's car over at 6speed.
  4. how about checking to make sure you have the latest version (.04) of the coolant tank cap. sometimes these will leak as well.... good luck.. hang in there....
  5. Was this an extended warranty?? Also, is your 996 a 2002.5 (MK2)?? with a 3.6 I believe it would be an MK2.
  6. check out the pictures of spoiler lips here and over at 6speed, esp the "official C4S" sticky over there. lots of good options. best I've seen was on Ben Choi's car. I think it's the factory aero lip, but I'm not sure. stay with the 996 look, it is what it is....
  7. Agreed that not every tick has to be an IMS issue and I'm for sure that this is not the case here . I still drive it daily and not trying to be carefull being affraid something will give, this is not the car for it. (however I sometimes wish it did as a good excuse for a major engine upgrade..) I had a similar sound with a 3.0 engine in my 911sc. of course, all sounds were were really obvious with the air-cooled, lots of "clicks and clacks" all the time, but always smooth sounding. hard to describe. then I heard a mysterious, disturbing sound only at about 3-4k, that had a raspy nature to it. checked it out, got some good opinions, decided to bite the bullet and get into it. and sure enough a main bearing on the crank had cracked. this was at about 160k on the engine. rebuilt the engine, new pistons and jackets, and then drove the car every day, really, until I sold it at about 325k. engine was really strong. moral of the story is to listen carefully, hope for the best, plan for the worst. good luck.
  8. and update the pressure cap on the tank, coolant can escape through the cap as well. I think the latest version is .04. how much coolant did you lose? I'm guessing just the coolant in the tank.
  9. agreed. sounds like a bearing going out. be very careful with this..... good luck
  10. Phil, I agree. My wife said to me years ago when I was considering an NSX, "don't you really want to be driving a Porsche?" visceral, yes. I was thinking about the MB SLS, but holding off any serious considerations until 2012 just to see how it shakes out.
  11. are you guys talking about the same awd system? 01vdpsc is talking about a 996, yes?
  12. there are some really interesting threads on this exact point. check them out via the search engine. there's also a cool 996 C4S dedicated thread over at 6speed that might be of interest to you as well. cheers...
  13. amp on the C4S is located by the spare tire, and under the tire cover panel in the front end.
  14. "purrs like a kitten....." (Beach Boys, Litte Deuce Coupe) If you dont mind my asking, what year was the car, engine a 3.4 or 3.6, how much did you lay out, and where is this dealer located. Just curious. I have about 31k on my 2003 3.6 C4S, and its my nature to always look down the road at the curves coming up. PM reply is ok if you prefer. Thanks.
  15. make the best attempt to stay under 3k until temp at 180.
  16. Considering that 10W-X oils were until recently recommended for use in the arctic, I have never understood the need for 0W-anything, particularly in temperate climates. First, based upon years of UoA's, I have no faith in Mobil 1 products. It has been all downhill since Exxon took over. I would suggest looking at Castrol Syntec 10W-40, it is what we use. redline 15/40. oil wars heating up again?
  17. I'd also appreciate a pm when you can. interesting, if not compelling, possibilty, if and when the need might arise. thanks in advance... hope the current weather has passed you bye....jl
  18. you can order the head part from Sunset, and then take it to the dealer for reprogramming. saves a few dollars that way. cheers, jl
  19. only way to connect an ipod/itouch to the CDR-23 is to contact Becker directly, speak with Daniel Antolino at Becker Auto Sound, and then pull out and send them the CDR-23. I was quoted $175 to have an aux-in installed on the radio. My understanding is that any attached ipod will play using its own controls, but will not be charged by the radio. Most importantly, I don't think the CDR-23 will work in your car, as it only works with the MOST fiber optic system. I think the other posters are likely correct regarding a possible swap for the CDR-220, but I don't know for sure. It's a mystery why the CDR-23 was not made with an aux-in port. Oh well. And I dont believe ipods had even been invented when this radio was oem in Porsches. as an aside, my wife paid about $700 to have an iPod cable attached to her '06 Lexus. It works great. I use a lighter plug-in fm transmitter for books in my C4S. It also works great.
