My wife's 04 Cayenne is having a problem with the Park Assist. With the shifter in D at standstill, the right hand side of the front display (with the green and red bars indicating something is in the way) goes crazy, even when there is nothing near the sensors upfront.

Porsche of North Houston already replaced the Park Assist control unit, but the problem persists and the service manager is at a loss as to what is causing this.

Another electrical gremlin?

Dirty sensors can cause that, make sure you clean them well but do NOT pressure wash

my 04 cayenne S is also having some park assist issues. when i slow down sometimes it just beeps and goes to red when i am not close to anything. how do i clean the sensors...and if there is a bad one, how do i find out which one and how to replace? is it a possible DIY? thanks....

You need a diagnostic tool to find out which sensor is faulty. As mudman2 mentioned, clean the sensors on the inside/backside of the bumpers. Check also the sensors for parking damage, slight damage or loose sensor can give faults.

It is recommended to remove the bumpers for easy access, you need some water and a brush, dry the connectors and sensors with compressed air before installing the bumpers. Gives a special attention on the extreme left and right rear sensor ( above the exhaust tips ) they are real mud containers.

Interesting you mention the diagnostic tool. Aparently the park assist module does not have a fault memory (at least not in an 04 S), so it can only be diagnosed WHEN the problem is manifest AND while AT the dealership. So far the car has been to the dealer more than 5 times for this problem and it still persists.

I will check if there is a TSB on this.

On the PST2, you are correct but I think that changed when PIWIS came out either that or when a coule of my control modules were changed, it locates on mine now

UPDATE

Turns out one sensor was slightly damages by road debris and needed replacement. This was done by Porsche of North Houston under CPO warranty and all is working fine now.

im getting a park assist problem. works fine when drive but as soon as i go into reverse or neutral the red lights come on on both the rear and front led displays. I am thinking there muast be an issue with the rears sensors as i never get this problem when in drive.Also it is intermittent. Mostly it doesnt work but then every now and then it will work properly.Is there a way of getting acces to rear sensors without having to remove the rear bumper/fender?

I have a 2005 Cayenne S. Rear Park Assist is not working. I was able to examine the "corner" sensors and they are both cracked. I was not able to check the middle four since I only took the lower valance off. I think its weird that the two sensor have so much damage. Please comment.

Do all years of Cayenne use the same sensor? The one on Ebay right now (user e-bacho) have different numbers than mine: 3D0919275D USD$39.90

I have also read sensors for VWs will work (saw it on ebay) and they are less expensive, True or False?

"Did you use Durametric or a Porsche PIWIS tester to verify the fault?" Answer = NO. I don't have Durametric and will now probably bring it in to the local Porsche dealer.

When the Shifter is put in Park, I see the double red LEDs show up on the rear and forward "green yellow red indicators" (it does the same when the shifter is in "N"). When shifter is in D, the foward ones work properly.

I feel kind of dumb... I purchased the 2005 Cayenne S a few weeks back but did not focus on the rear park assist... the fronts were working. Could of knock off a few more $$$ off the price. As said on another post, I bought warranty knowing this suv can be expensive to own... I guess I should just bring it in to Porsche and see what they come up with. I usually work on my own cars but this is a complicated vehicle as another "senior" poster has said.

Your advice?

Just got the same issue this weekend, pulled the rear bumper, checked all sensors, even removed all sensors and still had the 4 red leds for the rear coming on. all the wiring is good, no shorts or broken wires. Tested with durametric and got 1327, 1549, 1546, 1545. The last two are Short circuit to B+, but the wiring is good, now trying to find an easy way to test each sensor

Just a suggestion.. those look a lot like the sensors BMW uses. BMW ones actually make an audible noise when they're working. Sounds like a cricket chirping. It is VERY faint, and obviously the system has to be activated to hear it. The one not making the noise is the bad one. A mechanics stethoscope (Harbor Freight - $3.99, often on sale for $2.99) will probably help a bunch in hearing them.

Yes, the sensors are the same.Did you use Durametric or a Porsche PIWIS tester to verify the fault?One of those testers will pinpoint the problem. Otherwise you are just guessing and likely buying the wrong parts.

I have a similar problem, I connected my Durametric and it says front park sensor number 3 is faulty.

So, question is : which one is number 3 ?
