C2 or C4?

MY1999 C2 is not eGas

and

MY1999 C4 is eGas

To go from non-eGas to eGas requires changing the DME, accelerator pedal assembly, and re-programming the car. I doubt that was done for an engine change.

I do not know of any advantage - disadvantage to eGas. So, either is fine.

+1 to above, or you can look inside the engine bay, directly above the air intake box on the middle of the engine, top where the throttle body is (where the intake connects to). If you see a little bicycle type cable looped around the throttle body, you know you don't have an egas body.

Sorry to jump off-topic, but I thought that an advantage with egas is that the PSM system can back off the throttle input electronically?

That is true if the car has Traction Control or PSM. If the car has neither then there is no difference.

I remember reading a few posts where people prefer the "connected" feel of the throttle cable over the electronic. I test drove a C4 before buying my cable C2 and really couldn't notice a difference then, but I wonder if I would say the same now after having owned the car for over 4 years.

Will a 1999 996 ecu run a 2000 996?

A 5.2.2 DME will run a 2000 (and 2001) engine in a 1999 C2 car, provided you changed out the throttle body to cable operated and wired in the IACV (or if you were reusing your existing wire harness from a 1999 C2, just transfer the throttle body to the donor 2000 engine and you are done). Other than that, the 1999 and 2000 and even 2001 engines are pretty much identical with respect to wiring. Although there might be a few drivers aids options like PSM, etc that you would have to leave disconnected since the 5.2.2 DME might not understand how to operate those, but the engine would certainly run.

If you were to put the 1999 C2 5.2.2 DME in a 2000 MY car, you're asking for trouble. You would need to do a ton of rewiring, repogramming, and it wouldn't be worth it because the 7.2 DME is superior to the 5.2.2 in just about every way (not to mention less expensive).

looking for some help here.   I'm replacing engine 2001 C4  I have found some options (3) replacements engine's.   Question is one has electronics throttle control the pother two are without ETC how can I tell which one is the fit for my car ?
