With my Boxster S, it was the lateral arms... the ones that goes front to back. In the 197K miles of ownership, I think I replaced at least all of them twice and a few three times.

My 2009 C2S has a clunking/rattle in the right rear. I had it up on jacks and could not find it. I checked the three bolts on the top of the struts, I put a tire iron in there and twisted and wedged and no joint/bushing moved more than the others.

I am very sure it is a control arm. So, unless someone in Philly has some chassis ears they can lend me for a day, I want to just replace the most common offender. 997 331 043 01

So, which rear control arm goes first?

Anyone know the torque values for this part?

I had a mild rear clunking recently from the back of my C2 996 (2003) 54K. It was suggested on this forum that it could be rear sway bar mounts and drop arms, but these all seemed tight. Anyway I replaced them at a cost of £102 and things now seem OK. The drop arms are fairly slight with a small ball joint at each end.

The changeover was an easy job with the back of the car on stands. Just make sure that the set screws into the aluminium sub frame are not seized up as if they shear off it could turn into an expensive job.

I should have mentioned that I replaced the links a few months ago. It improved as some kind of the noise stopped but another is still there.

All OEM.

I am just going to order those control arms and replace them. My experience with my Boxster and the trouble the dealer had in diagnosing them before they had experience points me there.

Apparently for my case in a span of 36k kms. The control arms, the diagonal ones connected to the wishbones, had gone twice. The cars is a 2010, control arm replaced on 2012 and now its rattling already....so until i can find a better alternative to the oem ones, i will just keep repairing.
