"De-Snorkel" Air Box on a 996?

Recommended Posts

Brand new 911 owner here.  It looks like my car's PO removed the "snorkel" or air scoop that brings air from the spoiler into the airbox.  Any issue with that?  Seems to me you'd be pulling hot air into the engine instead of cooler air from outside.  I see that some Boxster owners do that, but can't seem to find if 996 owners do that.

Is it ok as is?  Or should I get a scoop off of Ebay to replace it?

All engines are happier breathing cooler outside filtered air.  I would locate the missing parts and reinstall them.

No idea what the purpose could have possibly been but I've seen folks do all sorts of weird things.  If it were my car I would return it to the manufacturer's spec.  Cooling is extremely important on these cars (and cars in general).

As far as the missing ram air duct, the plastic clips may have broken off and the previous owner just left it off.  I would also replace that as well as the engine compartment can get quite hot.

Looks like a coolant vent line that's supposed to connect to the coolant tank. The coolant tank should have 2 hoses connected to it on the top and one hose connected at the bottom. Can you show a shot that shows the other side of the coolant tank?
