I have a 97 tiptronic non turbo boxster. I blew my front seal so I need to rebuild my tranny. I just need to know what the parts numbers are for the bushing and seal.... I cant seem to find em and want to make sure I order the right parts.
I heard you can actually order a larger bearing and seal and then machine out the tranny where it goes into and in turn avoid this sort of issue for much longer.. if that helps identify what im needing here im sorry im sort of lacking in the lingo im still learning and will update with a better description once i can go over it again with the boyfriend.

Greetings - I have traced a coolant leak to the rear of the alternator - wondering if anyone else has seen this and whether its repairable or I just have to commit to replacing it (once I can find a replacement - they seem to be rather hard to find at the moment).... Cheers.
I would like to do the tests on alternator and cables described in a post of Ahsai on June 25, 2013.
Some of the tests involve connecting into the alternator output called ‘A’ in the post. I have trouble in locating ‘A’ on the back side of the alternator using an inspection mirror and I am not sure about how to make a reliable connection into it with the test cable. The post mentions the use of a J shaped hook attached to an insulated wire, but I don't know what the connection point looks like and where it is. I am also concerned about the risk of causing a short.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed?
Late 2004 Boxster Base Tiptronic with 45,000 miles
I have racked up 15,000 miles over the last 3 years of ownership. The coolant was flushed about a year prior to purchase. I think it's time to flush the coolant. I plan to buy the Airlift tool - it's a time vs cost issue, time wins.
I know from searching that JFP has recommended to others to replace the water pump as preventative maintenance on a car this age. Fair enough. Porsche pump, clean the mating surfaces carefully and:
1. Use gasket sealant or no sealant?
2. Should I replace the coolant reservoir even though I cannot find anything wrong with it?
I'll replace the thermostat at the same time.
3. Should it be the 160 degree thermostat?
3a. I notice that the car runs between 190 - 210 degrees (using Scangauge) most of the time in warm weather, so will the 160 stat be a benefit?
4. Which hoses should be replaced?
5. Anything else?
Since the start of ownership I've done mostly preventative and general maintenance with very few actual failures of any kind. With that being said, I think mileage is beginning to expose some common failures cropping up like what happened yesterday - the turn signal stalk won't hold in-place, so now I need to replace it but at least getting the 4-stalk version will give me the OBC functions.
I am considering keeping a jump starter portable external battery in the car. I am wondering if this battery could be used, when connected to the car electrical system through the cigarette lighter socket, to power the car electrical system to allow me to drive back home in case the alternator fails and the car battery is low. Vendors claim that the car could even be started using the external battery connected through the cigarette lighter socket.
Is there any risk of damaging any car electrical system components doing this?
